Congratulations to Ciara Grimes, daughter of Noeleen and Mel Grimes, Beaghmore, Carrigallen and Alan McNerney, son of Teresa and Joe McNerney, Legga, Moyne, Co Longford who celebrated their wedding in St Mary’s Church, Carrigallen on Saturday, 26 April 2014. Bridesmaids were Karen Croal, Roisin Reilly and Tina Hackett, cousin of the bride. Bestman was Thomas Martin and Groomsmen were Joseph McNerney and Mark Crowe. Following the wedding ceremony the bride and groom along with their families and friends made their way to the wedding reception at Crover House Hotel, Mountnugent, Co Cavan. Wishing Ciara and Alan a long life of wedded bliss!

Women’s Group

Carrigallen Women’s Group next meeting will be held on Saturday, 31 May in Mitchell’s at 9pm with a talk on general health and well being. The group is organising an outing to the Japanese Gardens, Newbridge Centre and Kildare Village shopping outlet on Saturday, 28 June 2014. Cost is €40 which includes a four course dinner, admission to the gardens and bus. To book your place a deposit of €20 to be paid to Yvonne Donohoe, Ann Reilly or Aine Gray by Saturday 14 June. Local Elections

Congratulations to the three local politicians, Paddy O’Rourke Fianna Fáil, John McCartin Fine Gael and Martin Kenny Sinn Féin who were all re-elected to Leitrim County Council in the recent local elections.

Active Age

Carrigallen and Drumeela Active Age have again supported the annual national Alzheimer’s Tea Day.  Alfie and Ann Harte, on behalf of Carrigallen and Drumeela Active Age, hosted a Tea Day in their home at Cois Locha, Carrigallen on Monday, 12 May 2014.  An amazing €630 was donated, and a cheque for this amount has been sent off to The Alzheimer Society of Ireland to help fund their services here in Leitrim. Alfie and Ann would like to thank everyone for their generosity and for their support.

The late James Morris

The death occurred of James Morris, Gulladoo, Carrigallen recently following a short illness at Cavan General Hospital. James was a member of the well respected Morris family from Fyhora, Moyne, Co Longford. He spent time in Los Angeles, USA during the late 1960s and 1970s and on his return he married his wife, Pauline and they settled down in Gulladoo where they farmed the land, a job which James loved and enjoyed. He was an expert in cattle breeding. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. His remains were received by Fr Denis Murray PP to St Mary’s Church, Carrigallen and following the funeral Mass he was interred in the adjoining cemetery. Sympathy is extended to his wife Pauline; brother Packie, Fyhora, Moyne; nephew Pauric; sister-in-law; relatives and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.

The draw was held on Saturday, 24 May 2014 and the numbers drawn on the night were 1, 9, 15, and 20. There was no Jackpot winner and the four winners of €50 each were Joanne Charles, Tricia Brady, Eugene Maguire and Killian McGuinness (14 Club). Next week’s draw will be held on 31 May and the Jackpot will be €11,900. Those in charge on the night will be Tommy Brady, Brendan Kiernan and Michael Reilly.
