We welcome Bishop Francis Duffy to our Parish for the Confirmation of the young people of Drumlish and Ballinamuck in St. Patrick’s Church, Ballinamuck on Thursday next at 3pm. We wish the young people, their parents and families and their teachers a very happy day.

Celebrating 25 years

Congratulations to Seamus Keane, Costcutters, Drumlish on 25 years in Business. Seamus and Barry Keane have become synonymous with the retail trade, having state of the art supermarkets in Drumlish and Edgeworthstown, serving the needs of the local communities. On Saturday last, Costcutters in Drumlish celebrated its 25th anniversary in style. Surrounded by friends and family and loyal supporters, numerous prizes were given out on the day. The children enjoyed face painting and activities and plenty of goodies as well. Customers were treated to discounted products and special offers. We send our congratulations to Seamus and family, Anthony, Leanne, Philip and Jessica, brother Barry and sister Annette on this great day and I join with all your friends, family and customers in wishing you every blessing, happiness and success for the next 25 years.

Ballinamuck Diary

Ballinamuck Enhancement AGM: Many thanks to everyone who took the time to attend our AGM. Our next fundraising event is a Table Quiz in the ‘98 Bar on Friday the 28th March. Put the date in your diary. Ballinamuck Community Association meet in the ’98 Hall on Wednesday night next, 19th March at 9pm. All members please attend. Ballinamuck ICA: The annual general meeting of Ballinamuck ICA Guild will take place on Monday, April 7th in the Visitors Centre, Ballinamuck. All members are asked to attend and new members are always welcome. Dancing Classes with Eamonn Cunniss will begin on Sunday evening, March 23rd in the ’98 Hall, Ballinamuck from 6.30pm to 8.00pm for 6 weeks. Waltz, Jive, Quick Step, Shoe the Donkey, Stack of Barley and a Spot of Line dancing. The classes are for beginners and experienced dancers, members and non-members. Adults €10. Students €5.

Graves for Sale
We wish to remind you that graves are now available for sale,at the reduced rate of €700 for a three grave family plot, €470 for a two grave family plot and €235 for a single grave until 1st July 2014.  After 1st July graves will revert to the standard prices of €900, €600 and €300.  If you are interested in buying a grave or would like any further information please contact Brendan Daly on 087 7717886 or Seamus Mimnagh 086 8622298.

Spring Stations

Stations for Drumlish area of the Parish take place at this time. Last year’s response was very positive. The Station Mass can also be part of our Lenten preparation. Contact Fr. Ber. Station for Breanrisk is already booked for Friday, 28th March in John and Una Conlon’s at 8.30pm.

Baptisms

Tilly May Allen daughter of Jamie & Deborah, 22 Esker Glen and Molly Rose Courtney daughter of Brian & Edel 27 Mill Oaks were baptised and welcomed into our faith family last weekend. We congratulate the parents and grandparents on these great occasions also.

80th Birthday

Congratulations to Joan Barrett, Dublin, sister of John Sullivan, Esker North on celebrating her 80th Birthday with a great party in The Village Inn, recently. We wish you a happy birthday Joan and hope you celebrate many more.

  

Tidy Towns

Drumlish Tidy Town’s Monster clean up was a fantastic success. In excess of 30 turned out and the verges are green and clean once again. In excess of 100 bags of litter was collected weighing 1/2 a ton and 60 of those bags were filled between Kilnashee & Mulleadys Civic amenity. Drumlish Tidy Town’s thank all who responded to the appeal for help- the job could not have been accomplished without you. Sincere thanks too to Scott Buchanan & company at The Tavern who provided the refreshments after the event - appreciated by all.

Longford County Choir

Advance notice of upcoming choral concert at St. Mary’s Church, Drumlish on Sunday 4th  May next (Bank Holiday weekend). This fundraiser is for the marking of Heritage in this historic village. More anon.

Cairn Hill Challenge

The Annual Cairn Hill Challenge 10mile and 10km Road Race will take place on Sunday, May 3rd, starting out at Drumlish Community Centre and taking the same routes as last year. In conjunction with this years’ event, an informal walking/running/ jogging group is being organised. This fun group will act as preparation for the big race and getting fit generally. It will start on February 11th at 7pm at Drumlish Community Centre and will be led by expert coach Brendan Doyle from Longford. This is a wonderful opportunity for runners, walkers, joggers and athletes of all abilities to get together and get fit in a relaxed setting while preparing for the May Bank Holiday. Pilgrimage

Trócaire

Please bring home a Trócaire Box. This year features a young girl, Ernestina from Dedza in Malawi. From a country which has been saturated with rain we turn to Malawi where drought is severe and hence crop failure an ever present reality. Your Trócaire savings can help provide essential water for ordinary consumption and can also help in the development of irrigation schemes to provide food.

Bereavement Course

Recent Deaths

Lennon: Anthony (Tony) Lennon, RIP late of Tooting, London and formerly Kilmahon, Drumlish. Internment of ashes will take place at Kilmahon Cemetery following 2.00pm Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Drumlish on Wednesday next March 19th.

Nevin: The death occurred on February 27th of Betty Nevin (nee Maguire), Ward’s Terrace, Longford. She was pre-deceased by her husband Felix and grandson Cormac. To her sons Johnny, Matthew, Phelim, Jude and Paul, daughters Maria, Brigid, Elizabeth, Christina, Edel and Dolores, brothers John, Frank, and Paul, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relations and friends we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.

Sweeney

The death occurred recently of Betty (Elizabeth) Sweeney, nee O’Reilly, Kimmage, Dublin and late of Shroid and Drumlish. To her daughters Jane and Grace, son Luke, sisters, Mary, Anne, Bridget and Angela, brothers Joe, Pat and Paul, grandchildren, daughter-in-law Eva, relatives and friends we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.

Brady

The death took place at his residence (suddenly) on March 10th of Gerry (Gerard) Brady , Aghadark, Ballinamore Co.Leitrim and late of Soran Cross, Ballinalee,and former Deputy Principal of St. Felim’s College, Ballinamore. To his wife Francisson Conor, daughter-in-law Deirbhil, grandchildren Conor and Ciara, brother-in-law Sean McMullin and his wife Attracta, (Aughadeignan, Longford), sister-in-law Mary Gallagher and husband Michael (Ballybofey), nephews, nieces, relatives, former colleagues, and friends, we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy. Deepest Sympathy is extended to Aiden and Teresa Kelly and family, Kilnashee, on the recent death of Aiden’s sister. RIP. Go ndéana Dia Trócaire ar a n-anaim go léir.
