Congratulations

Congratulations to Commandant Kieran Carey on his appointment to aide-de-camp to An Taoiseach Enda Kenny. Comdt Carey lives in Newtownforbes with his wife Emer, children, Matthew, Sean, Daniel and Sophia. Kieran has been a member of the defence forces since 1986 and a commandant since 2009. Kieran has served on a number of overseas tours including Liberia and the Lebanon. Mr Kenny said “Comdt Carey has enjoyed a distinguished military career to date and I know that he will undertake his new duties in my department with the same sense of professionalism and integrity

Karate Club

Our training continues on Monday from 7-8pm. Thank you to all of our students who took part in the ICA demonstration recently. Also thank you to the students and parents who took part in the Mission in Newtownforbes recently. We remind students that Newtownforbes and Kilglass karate clubs are no longer part of the Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu International organisation and are a completely separate entity. Table Quiz

Longford Toastmasters are holding a Table Quiz in Longford Rugby Club on Thursday the 27th of March at 9pm, (team registration at 8.30pm). Table of four persons cost €40.  Raffle and spot prizes on the night. All welcome.

ICA

We had a very enjoyable meeting on Wednesday night in Killashee, as a result of this we have come up with some very good ideas and hopefully with the help of guild members and new members we can bring new life into the ICA. Our night of celebration takes place on Thursday night 20th of March starting at 7pm in Newcastle House, National President Liz Wall will attend. Lotto takes place on Wednesday 19th March stay in to win.

Engaged

We would like to extend our congratulations to John Dowd, Newtownforbes and Sharon Treacy, Ballinalee who announced their engagement at the weekend. We wish them well.

Do This in Memory

Do this in Memory Mass for First Holy Communion Class at 7pm Saturday 22nd March.

Sacrament of Confirmation

6th Class pupils from Scoil Mhuire National School will make their confirmation on the Friday 28th March at 3pm.

Passion Play

The Parish Pastoral Council hope to honour the year (150 Anniversary) with a Good Friday Passion Play. To do this they need help. They need people to play different parts – about twelve. NO acting experience is needed. They need to hurry as Easter is five weeks away. Please give your name to Fr. Mc Govern, Anne O’Brien or any member of the Parish Pastoral Council.

Lock your Car

Please be sure to lock your car when attending church. Some unlocked cars in the church grounds were searched during mass recently.

Stations

Lent is the time of the year to celebrate the station masses. Anyone wishing to host a Station Mass for their area please contact Fr. McGovern.

Sympathy

We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Martin McDonnell and family, Cartrons on the death of Martin’s father, Larry McDonnell, Gaigue, Ballinamuck who passed away recently. May he rest in peace.
