The Midlands Regional Final (Chapter 15) of the Credit Union Schools Quiz took place in Moate on Friday, February 28th. Castlepollard Credit Union were very well represented by two teams from Collinstown N.S. The Under-13 team finished in first place after a tie-break with St. Etchen’s, Kinnegad. Both teams scored 63 points out of a possible 72. The first two teams progress to the national finals. The team of Nicholas Isdell, Dominic KcKeon, Lorcan Bartley and Killian Hogan will now go forward to represent their school and credit union in the national finals in the RDS in Dublin pon Sunday, April 6th. This is a great achievement for the team and we wish them well in the finals. The Under-11 team from Collinstown N.S. narrowly missed out on a place in the next round. They were in with a good chance of progressing right up to the end. The team of Alan McKeon, Caoimhe KcKeon, Laura Isdell and Sean Hallissey were very close to Joining the Under-13 from their school in the national finals. Well done to them on a great performance.
Next Sunday, March 23rd, sees Balycamoyle GAA Club, in association with Seven Wonders Cycling Club, Fore, holding both a Cycling Sportif and Family Fun Cycle. There are three routes available on the day, ranging from 100km, 40km and the family fun route of 20km. Start and return point will be Castlepollard Community College, and refreshments will be provided on the routes and at the finish. Registration for the 100km sportif will be at 9am, closing at 9.50am, and start time at 10.00am, and the cost is 20.00 euro. Registration for the 40km sportif closes at 11.20am, and start time is 11.30am sharp. Cost for the 40km event is 20.00 euro. Registration for the Family Fun Cycle closes at 11.50am and start time is 12.00 noon sharp. Cost is 20.00 euro per family. Charity Honda 50 Run
Castlepollard Honda 50 Club are holding their annual Charity Run on Sunday, March 30th. The event is being run id aid of local charities, and will start and finish at Ringtown GAA Centre, Whitehall, Castlepollard. Registration will take place prior to the start time of 11.00am, and refreshments, raffle and prizegiving will take place following the event. Archbishop Luke Fagan weekend
As part of the celebrations for the Archbishop Luke Fagan Weekend being held in Castlepollard on June 14th and 15th, there will be a number of ceremonies, short historical talks and prayers at the cemeteries in Lickbla, Foyran and Rathgarve. There will be Picnic/Lunch followed by a Talk in the Parish Community Centre about the life and times of Luke Fagan. In addition there will be a Mass on Sunday, June 15th, celebrated by Most Rev Dr. Michael Smith, Bishop of Meath, with the Papal Nuncio, His Excellency The Most Rev Charles John Brown attending, and a Fagan Gathering present, to which all are welcome. This will be followed by refreshments in the Parish Community Centre. At 4.30pm there will be be a guided visit to Fore monastic sites to conclude the day. Luke Fagan was born in the Lickbla area of Castlepollard Parish in 1656 and became Bishop of Meath in 1713, and was consecrated in 1714. He died as Archbishop of Dublin in 1734. Fagan families are asked to send in their names to Castlepollard Parochial House from now on indicating their desire to attend.
CRCW 5k Walk/Race Fun Run
Next Sunday sees the CFCW 5K/Walk Race Fun Run taking place starting at 12.00noon. There will be prizes for many categories including Seniors, Juniors, Over 40’s, Over 50’s and U-12 National School children. A special walking group for children will be supervised with two stewards. The event is AAI approved and insured. Refreshments in Fitzsimmons Bar following the event, and times posted on Facebook.
