As these are the first notes of 2014, I take this opportunity of wishing all a very happy, peaceful and successful new year and hope that all will be safe throughout 2014.
Over the Christmas period the Ballymore Football club held three monthly draws and in doing so they gave a total of three thousand and nine hundred euro away. Tommy Gallagher, Edgeworthstown, Granard Tyre Warehouse and the Greville Golf Society, Granard all won one thousand euro, while the following all won one hundred euro each,Gerard and Helen Reynolds, Marie Flynn, Michael and Mary Tully, John Coyle, Mary Kiernan, Ballymahon GAA, Greville Golf Society, Paddy Tully and Seamus Flynn. Next draw in McElvaney’s on Friday, 31st January. Congrats to all the winners and sincere thanks to all our supporters.
Congratulations and best wishes to Deirdre Monaghan, Willsbrook who celebrated her 21st Birthday with a great party for family, friends and neighbours recently.

On Wednesday last, January 1st, St Mary’s Church in Granard was the setting for a beautiful wedding when Aine, daughter of Johnny and Kate Ann Cullen, Killeen and Niall, son of Eugene and Teresa Vance, Glanmore were united in holy marriage by Fr. Simon Cadam and Fr. Eamon Corkrey. Aine had her sister Caroline McDermott as her maid of honour while Niall had his brother Declan as his best man. Rebecca McClean and Lisa Marie McKenna were the bridesmaids and Francis McGee and Donal Conefrey were the groomsmen. The ring bearer was Dylan Vance and the readers were Jennifer Vance and Ciaran Cullen and the gift bearers were Kate Ann Cullen and Teresa Vance and the music was by Vitava. Following the ceremony the bride and groom and their guests travelled to the Hotel Kilmore where they were treated to a great meal and were provided with an evening and night of fantastic entertainment. We join with the Cullen and Vance families in wishing Aine and Niall the very best as they have now travelled back to their country of adoption Australia.
The organizers of the fun cycle which left from McElvaney’s on Saturday, 28th December wish to express a very sincere thanks to all the cyclists who took part and made sure this was a huge success. Thanks to Michael McElvaney and to all who helped on the day and of course to all who gave so generously. A total of 1,160 euro was raised for Longford Hospice as a result of your great efforts so well done to all.
Granard country markets will re-open for business on Friday, 17th January from 8-30am to 11-00am and they wish all their patrons a very happy and healthy 2014.
On Friday, December 27th last a very pretty wedding took place in Corpus Christi Church in Mount Temple when Ian Campbell, son of Eileen and the late Francis Campbell, Muckerstaff, Coolarty and Elaine Conlon were united in holy marriage by Fr. Pat Kiernan. Ian’s brother, Stephen was best man and Regina Killane was the bridesmaid and following the ceremony the happy couple were joined by family and friends for a lovely celebration in the Wine Port in Glasson. Both Ian and Elaine are Guards and are based in Roscommon and Tullamore and are now on honeymoon in San Francisco, so we join with their families and friends in wishing them a long and happy life together.
