Win: The Cavan U-21 team had a good victory over neighbours Monaghan in the Ulster Championship on Wednesday of last week (20th March) in a highly entertaining game played in Kingspan Breffni Park. The sides were level at the end of normal time so extra time had to be played during which Cavan dominated and were worthy winners. Arva were represented by Ciaran Brady playing in the left full back position and what a performance he was giving until he unfortunately went over on his ankle and had to be substituted. The injury wasn’t as bad as first feared and hopefully he will retain his place for the Ulster semi final against Down which takes place in the Athletic Grounds, Armagh at 8 o’clock this evening Wednesday 3rd April. All support welcome – 16th man. The Cavan Senior team have Roscommon as visitors to Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday next 7th April and depending on other results there is still an outside chance of promotion. The Rossies will be at full strength following St Bridget’s great win in the All Ireland Club Final so it should be a cracking game. All supporters are again requested to come along and cheer on the team

Death: There was deep sadness over a wide area at the death of M.s Debbie Redahan Farrangarve, Arva and Corglass, Moyne which occurred on 12th March. A very popular figure in the community she was very outgoing and had a large circle of friends. On leaving Moyne Community School Debbie moved to the University of Ulster from where she graduated with a first class Honours Degree in Equine Studies. She worked in various Stud Farms including the foaling unit of the Aga Khan Stud where her sensitivity towards animals marked her out as someone special. It was this deep love of animals and nature in general that brought Debbie to the next phase of her life where with her fiancée Raymond Daly they set up a farm with a fine herd of cows. She knew each animal individually and had pet names on them all. She had a great work ethic and kept the farm yard in spotless condition. There was a genuine outpouring of grief in Arva and the surrounding areas as Debbie had touched so many with her bright smile and gentle nature. Deepest sympathy is extended to her heartbroken fiancée Raymond, parents Pat and Ann, sisters Barbara and Audrey, nephews, relatives and many friends on their sad loss and assure them of our prayers. Her remains were removed from her home in Corglass to St Mary’s Church, Legga and following Concelebrated Requiem Mass burial took place in the local cemetery. Raymond would like to sincerely thank the members of Arva GAA Club for their help and support over those difficult days.
