CÓMHALTAS: Heartiest congratulations to Michael Tubridy  on his well deserved Lifetime Award on TG4 on Sunday night -Michael spent many years teaching flute at The Joe Mooney Summer School until his wife Celine became ill. He continues to promote the past flute players of Leitrim, especially John Mc Kenna and Packie Duignan. He enjoys the annual trip to Arigna - the homestead of McKenna and the grave of Packie Duignan with a group of flute players to commemorate their memory and their music. Congratulations also to Dónal McCague - winner of Ceoltóir Óg na Bliana 2013. Dónal, younger brother of Michael (guitar) and Seán (banjo) of the well known traditional McCague family from Scotstown. Dónal will be tutoring Fiddle at The Joe Mooney Summer School and will be special guest at Fiddle Recital. He gave a great performance last year at the Opening Concert with Dave Sheridan and his brother Michael. It was also great to see Sarah-Jane Woods playing a flute session on the night with Michael Tubridy. Well done to TG4 on a wonderful night of traditional and culture. As well as music song and dance, there will be Comhrá Gaeilge competitions at Fleadh Liatroma in Ballinamore   for Age groups; 7-9; 9-11; 11-13; 13-15; 15-17. It is open to all schools and children in Leitrim and entry is 2 euro  There is also a Seomra Gaeilge where there will be an adult to talk with children and make the language an enjoyable feature of the Fleadh Céad míle fáilte roimh gach éinne. SWIMMING LESSONS: Adults one to one and children group and one to one swimming lessons commencing in the Lough Allen Hotel, Drumshanbo. Children group lessons take place on a Tuesday evening and Saturday morning, €60 for 6 weeks, 8 children per class, 45minutes per class. Adult and children one to one take place on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evening, €110 for 6 weeks, 45minute classes. Discount for more than 2 children per family. THE BASE YOUTH CAFÉ: The soccer coaching programme for primary school young people is now finished. We want to thank our coach Gareth, Paul for all his help during the project. To the volunteers who supervised and to all the young people who attended. Swimming for this group will commence in the Ramada on Wednesday 10th April, from 4.30pm to 5.30pm for 4th class young people and from 5.30pm to 6.30pm for 5th and 6th class young people. The youth café will not be open during these hours. As part of our healthy lifestyle project a Youth Sports Day will take place at the Mayflower on Wednesday 3rd April from 2pm to 4pm.This is open to young people in 4th 5th and 6th classes. Admission is €2. Please bring your signed consent forms on the day. An outing for post primary young people will take place on Friday 5th April to Waterworld. Bus will leave from café at 9am. Fee is €15, this includes transport, swimming and food. Please call to café for consent forms and any further details you require. FREE DIGITALLIBRARY: It’s all digital things these days! The library is no different! You may not be aware that Leitrim County Library offers a free digital library to its members. Membership of the library is free too! All you need is an eBook reader or a laptop or a computer or a smart phone. Unfortunately this service will not work with the popular Kindle yet but the library service expects it will in the future and say negotiations are ongoing with Kindle. You can access the eBook service which has both eBooks and audio books at the library website at www.leitrimlibrary.ie and click digital library on the left hand side of the page. If you click the Getting Started link there are useful instructions here on how to download your books etc. This is a great service if you cannot get to the library or are on holidays and like a good read by the pool. The library has added sixty new titles recently.

AGM: Midland Retired Secondary Teachers Association will hold AGM on Tues April 9th at 11:30am in Longford Library. Lunch will follow and we then travel to Longford Garden Centre, Drumlish Road for 3pm where Laura Shaw will give demonstration and answer questions on all things related to gardening.  GOSPEL CHOIR FUNDRAISING EVENT IN CARRIGALLEN: The Co. Leitrim ‘Sweet Spirit Country and Gospel Choir’ based in Mohill and under the musical direction of Tish Dunleavy will be staging their show in the Cornmill Theatre, Carrigallen on Friday night 12th April 2013 at 8.30pm. Proceeds from this show will be donated to the two very deserving organisations - Leitrim based ‘Stop Suicide’ and Leitrim Multiple Sclerosis. Keep Friday 12th April 2013 free to come along and support the work of these two great organisations while at the same time enjoying this great singing group.
