1798 Commemoration Weekend: The first meeting of 1798 commemoration weekend for 2013 was held on 25/10/2012 in Longford Library. It planned for the 6, 7 & 8 of September 2013 for Granard, Ardagh and Ballinmuck.

Local support for organising the events, or providing support and details of bed spaces are required from local Hotels, B&B’s, and Farm houses etc. offering tourist accommodation around the Granard area. It is planned the event will be bigger this year with publication on the Gathering web site, Discover Ireland and with Heritage Ireland. SYMPATHY: We offer our sincere sympathy to Eamon and Maureen O Keeffe and family Aughakilmore on the death of Eamon’s mother Mrs Ethel O Keeffe hich occurred last week. The late Mrs O Keeffe was laid to rest in Ballymacormack cemetery on Tuesday last following Mass in Our Lady’s Manor Chapel. May she rest in peace.

NOVENA: The annual novena continues in St. Mary’s church in Granard every Wednesday night and on tonight will be specially for all who passed to their eternal reward in the past year. Novena starts at 7-30pm.

PRAYERS: Public prayers for the faithful departed will be held in Granardkille cemeteries on Sunday November 18th following the 11-30 Mass starting in the old cemetery at 12-30pm and in the new cemetery at 1-00pm.

IRISH NIGHT: The parents association of St.Patrick’s national school Killeen will hold an Irish night in McElvaney’s Coolarty on Saturday night November 17th next and full details next week.

NEW BABY: Congratulations to Carol and Brian Kennedy Longford on the birth of their second child-a boy recently.The new arrival is to be named Connor and he is a welcome brother for Clodagh. Mrs Kennedy is on the teaching staff of St. Patrick’s national school Killeen and all her pupis send her and her family best wishes.
