HARVEST FESTIVAL: On Sunday 2nd September 2012 the Lough Rynn Harvest Festival returns to the grounds of Lough Rynn Castle. Remembering back the years this event has always been a day to remember -the helicopter rides,vintage cars machinery car simulator hot air balloon demonstration ,craft demonstrations county market and trade stands,bony baby competitions ,cat and dog shows,children amusements not forgetting a guided tour of the Lough Rynn walled gardens you can also enjoy a BBQ and full bar facilities while there will be a live music by TR Dallas and entertainment by i102 Radio. Do come along and bring a friend. There will be something for everybody to enjoy in ideal surroundings. It is a day for meeting old friends and greeting new ones. Extending a cead mile failte to all our visitors. The festival is organised by Bornacoola Development Co Ltd who have prepared a very interesting prograamme for you on the 2nd September.

WEDDING BELLS: A pretty wedding took place in St Patricks Church Mohill last week when Denis O’Mahony an Ciara Mhugh Stranorlar Co Donegal were united in matrimony. It was a momentous occasion followed by a reception in the Lough Rynn castle Hotel. Congratlations Dennis and Ciara,.

STEHPEN AND MARIE WED: We wish to add our congratulations to the many received by Stephen McDonagh Cloonfannon Mohill on his marriage to Marie Rooney Ferbane Co Offaly. The ceremony with papal blessing took place in Ferbane Church followed by reception in the Athlone Springs Hotel which was thoroughly enjoyed by family and guests.

WEDDING BELLS: The bells of church of our Lady of Mount Carmel Rooskey rang out on the fourth of August last to welcome family & friends to the marriage of Deirdre Hanley Rooskey and Tony Faughnan Clooneagh Bornacoola. It was a very special enjoyable day. Reception was in Lough Rynn Castle. The food was delicious and everybody enjoyed the entertainment that followed. Their many friends wish to join with me in wishing Tony and Deirdre best of luck.

SHOW THANKS: Mohill Agricultural Show Committee wish to extend their sincere gratitude to all who assisted them in so many ways to host Show 2012. Without the generous and loyal support of our sponsors both local and national it would be impossible to have hosted the event. Sincere thanks is also extended to all who contributed to the Town and mart Collections ,those who made donations to the office ,supported our raffle and our fundraising table quiz earlier in the year. The committee acknowledge the cooperation they received from Francis & Geraldine McGowan,the management & staff of Mohill sports complex,the management & staff of Connaught gold livestock mart, John & Maureen Reynolds Olive Reynolds,Frank Lawrence and Tommy Beirne modular panels Ltd whose properties were used for the show and parking facilities. Many businesses and organisations put various necessary resources and services at our disposal for the day and the committee thank all concerned. On the day itself the committee thank the local gardai Dr Arthur Dolan Leitrim Civil Defence team and all who assisted in so many ways to have a safe and accident free show day. Finally great credit is due to all the stewards who came along on the day to carry out their duties so willingly and efficiently in all sections. Sincere thanks to all for their part in making Mohill Show 2012 a successful community event.

LEITRIM ANIMAL WELFARE: Leitrim animal Welfare have made a plea to animal lovers in the county to consider fostering puppies adult dogs and cats ,some of which have been housed in their facility for over a year. This year has seen an increase in the number of pets coming into the centre which is reaching full capacity. L.A.W. normally ask for an adoption donation but as a once off they are offering cats which have been tamed wormed vaccinated and neutered free of charge to good homes. Contact L.A.W. on 071 9648700 if you can offer any of these animals a home.

SCHOOLS REOPENING: St Manchans NS will re-open this Thursday 30th August for all pupils. For some it will be their first step into school. We wish them and all students the best of luck.

SHOW DAY 2012: In ideal weather conditions Mohill greeted Show Day 2012.Competitors and exhibitors came from across Mohill parish from all over county Leitrim and from virtually the whole of Ireland and even overseas. The judges in all sections were very impressed . They too came from the four corners of Ireland. Northern Ireland was also represented with competitors coming from Antrim Fermanagh and Tyrone as well as a competitor from France. There was a very large attendance and it was nice to meet Mae Reynolds Malone and husband Willie,Ann Liam McHugh Shane McKeown,Martin Mae Moran,Tony Farrell ,Rev Fr Michael Dunleavy,T Mulherin,Loyd Donnelly Josephine Anne Agnes Mulligan,D Reynolds,Mrs Hewston,Mrs Patricia O’Malley Bradshaw Laura Reynolds,Mrs J Reynolds Early sisters Padraig McGarthy,Peggy Beirne Reilly & family,the Shanley family and many more too numerous to mention. The show dance in Js was most enjoyable where all danced their cares away to the music of “Gobsmacked”. A perfect end to a perfect day.

CONGRATULATIONS: I wish to add my congratulations to the many received by all the young students who received their Leaving Certificate results here in Mohill Community College this year. The results were excellent. Thanks to the dedication of the students under the guidance of their teachers and the wonderful love and understanding of their parents and all who helped them during those formative years. Education is for life. This is another step on life’s journey. May you continue in good faith to have success in your studies. The common sense to do what is best and may you have a life filled with contentment and every blessing.

NEW BOOK: A recently published memoir written by former Mohill resident,Willie Burns is now on sale.In the book the magpie and the Weasel: A Leitrim Memoir,Willie describes growing up on a small farm near Ballinamore and his working life first on the Cavan Leitrim railway line and then Quinn’s in Mohill where he worked for twenty years until the closure of the store in 1983. Willie is now ninety three and lives in Lusk in north county Dublin. The book is available for purchase in Paul’s shop in Mohill Supervalu in Ballinamore or directly by emailing burnsjoe@eirccom.net.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: There is Eucharistic Adoration every Thursday here in St Patricks Church. Due to a wedding this Thursday 23rd August, Eucharistic adoration will begin at 4pm -10pm.

MOHILL GAA LOTTO RESULTS: On the 13th August the Lotto draw was held in John James Bar Glebe Street. The numbers drawn were 5,10,28,29.There was no jackpot winner. Lucky dip winners 1st 70 euro Jim O’Brien Mohill; 2nd 40 euro Kenneth Booth Mohill; 3rd 20 euro Martin Heavey Rosharry. The draw on Monday 20th August was held in Gordons with the jackpot at 11400 euro. Thanking you for your support. SYMPATHY: The people of Mohill wish to join with me in sympathising with Larry Wynne formerly from Cerraterriff Eslin and now resident at Kildare Wood Leixlip Co Kildare on the death of his dear wife Anne who died on the 7th August 2012. Her cremation took place following requiem Mass which was very largely attended by her family and many friends. To Larry their children and family circle we offer our most sincere sympathy. She is gone no further from us than to God. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

SOCIAL DANCING: Social dancing here in Js Hotel Main St is the place to come and dance the night away this Thursday night 23rd where Brian McDermott and his band will provide some lovely music and song for your pleasure. See you there.

ESTHER MCGARRY: It was with deep regret we learned of the death of Esther McGarry late of Hyde Tce Mohil and Ennniscrone Co Sligo who died last week. She was a very caring kind lady who was much loved by the many friends she met during her life’s journey. She died as she lived with dignity. The vrry large attendance at her requiem mass here in St Patricks Church which was a celebration of Esthers life at which the beautiful music and singing added to the solemnity of this sad occasion was indeed testimony to the high esteem in which she,her brothers sisters and their extended families were held in the community and to whom we offer our deepest sympathy. Our sympathy is also to her friends in Enniscrone and all who mourn Esther at this sad time.

HANDBALL CHAMPIONS: We wish to add our congratulations to the many received by Donald Wynne and Shane Doonan Fenagh who won the All Ireland minor 60 X 30 handball championship in Abbeylara recently. Mary Shanley and Ciara McLoughlin were narrowly beaten in the All Ireland junior ladies handball championship in Roscommon.Better luck next time ladies.Fenagh handball club have launched a fundraising draw with some great prizes. CHRISTOPHER REILLY: There was genuine regret and deep sorrow on hearing of the death of Christy Reilly St Patricks View Mohill who died in the tender care of his wife Mary and family at their home on the 30th August 2012. Christy died after a long illness borne courageously and with dignity. He was a great family man and most obliging neighbour. A gifted singer and musician whom it was always a pleasure to meet. We shall miss that warm handshake and lovely smile. Sadly his daughter Patricia died a few short years ago. RIP. His funeral mass here in St Patricks Church was representative of all sections of the community and the beautiful music and singing was just what Christy would have enjoyed. We offer our sincere sympathy to his wife Mary son daughter son in law daughter in law grandchildren sisters brothers in law and family circle and neighbours. May he rest in peace.

FAMILY FUN DAY: At Lough Rynn Amenity Area. What is our community about ? Answer:People working together and planning fantastic entertainment on the shores of Lough Rynn and it all happened on Sunday 15th July. There were months of work and preparations by “Rynn Shannon District angling Club Committee”. Chairperson Paul Beck secretary Mick Richards,treasurer John Bradshaw,Jim Boyle ,the safety officer and club members who provided music dance and food. The day started with greeting our friends from Cherbnobyl and their host families. Hours of music and classical singing by the Garda band were organised by Michael Hefferan and the one man band Tom Moran from Rooskey . Roisin Kennedy Charlene Mulligan and their dancers entertained us with Irish dancing and hip hop. Thanks to Scott Hunter for the bouncy castle,Gerry Bohan who treated all the children to rides on the donkey cart,to Loughlin Burns who provided sweets and treats to Siobhan McGuinness Jacinta Rowley Catherine Reynolds who did face painting. Tommy Murphy was the ticket seller for the day. We would like to thank the many helpers who took people out on boat trips around the lake,David Wynne who provided DVDs of the day,Theresa Foy our photographer and our comedian for the day Valerie Beck. We thank the many people who cooked and prepared delicious food and we are very grateful to our friends from the caravan Site. A special thanks to the Order of Malta. Thanks to Pat Confrey and Peter and Hughie Logan for cooking and carving the pig. Well done to all. Preparation ahead of the event involved the Leitrim Co Council who provided the facility for the day.To Richard Hackett the caretaker and the BLue Grass Committee who supplied a tent. Thanks to Vincent Duignan who provided space for parking.
