FEAST OF ST MEL: Tuesday last 7th February was the feast of St Mel. He is said to have been a Briton who came to Ireland with St Patrick,his uncle with whom he worked until he was ordained in Ardagh.He is one of the earliest Irish saints and gave the religious veil to Saint Brigid. He is the patron Saint of our diocese and is commemorated in the name of our cathedral in Longford. He died in 488.
