Congratulations: To Northern Gaels on winning the Minor Football Championship final in a great victory on Sunday last in Pearse Park . Well done to the panel of players, the management the backroom staff and all others involved on this wonderful achievement. Many thanks to Northern Gaels for all their excellent work in promoting our Gaelic Games.
Rural Enhancement: Meeting took place last Thursday night at 8.00pm in the Sports Complex. Work is well in progress for the overall enhancement of our parish. Priorities were discussed and it was agreed Michael Hetherton was pushing forward to the next stage of seeking tenders in connection with the footpath and lights from the village to the football pitch and its surroundings. In the meantime a further meeting will be held next Thursday at 8.00pm in the Sports Complex to keep you updated on all progress. We would again urge you to get involved and have your ideas marked down as part of Abbeylara Rural Enhancement.
Tidy Towns: Another year in the National Tidy Towns competition has finally come to an end, and well done to all the overall winners. Of course waiting to receive the results for the village was nail biting. It was a hard summer due to bad weather and finding time for people to get out and keep up outdoor work. So they came (the results) and yes it was disappointing, no extra points were gained, the results remained the same as 2010. A full break down on how we received the points can be found on the Tidy Towns web page or a copy of the results can be got in P.J. Farrell’s Shop or Crawford’s Lounge. So now what’s next! Well the National Judging is over but the work continues, to keep the village looking good we still have to carry out the litter pick up and maintain the flower arrangements and so on. Maybe for 2012 you have a plan, an idea on how to help out the tidy towns, so come along join in. A big Thank You to all those who worked so hard over the Summer.
