FLEADH SUCCESS: Congratulations to all the Longford Competitors who took part in The Leinster Fleadh Ceol at the weekend, especially those who qualified from the Edgeworthstown area. Our Set Dancers took second place and are heading for The All Ireland Final in August in Cavan. The team consisted of Maeve Donnelly, Emma Kane, Aoife Kane, Siobhan Campbell, Rebecca And Danielle McLoughlin, Kirsten Smith and Fiona McGrath. This young team is going from strength to strength. Well done to their tutor Bill Quirke who works tirelessly with the team all year round. Other Qualifiers include, Hughie Smith on Drums, Ronan Callaghan and Eoghan Gilchriest on Drums. Well done also to Eoin Smith who got three bronze medals, also Aislng O’Reilly who alongside with Eoin and Patrick Columb took third place in the Trio. Aoife Mulligan from Shantum got third place in the English singing. Jackie Callaghan took Gold in The over 18 Piano Accordion. Laura Callaghan 3rd in accompaniment and 2nd in the piano under 18; Jackie Callaghan second in piano over 18. If I have forgotten anybody please let me know and I will add them next week.
TRACTOR RUN: Legan Vintage Club are holding a tractor run on Sunday, July, 17th for the disabled people of Longford. Run leaving Rathowen at 12 noon sharp and heading for Longford where refreshments will be served at the half way point. On return to Rathowen there will be a BBQ in The Village House. A great Days enjoyment is promised.
OFFICIAL OPENING: The Official opening of the New Community Hall took place on Sunday last. It is a state of the art facility and much praise and thanks is due to the hard working committee who are the ones responsible for getting the funds together and getting the work done. We must in particular say well done to the builders “ Stonegrange Developments” and his team who worked non stop to be open in time for the official opening. A great day was had by young and old. There was finger food, music, and entertainment for the children all laid on. Thank God for this beautiful new facility much needed in our community.
MONSTER AUCTION: Longford Friends of the Children of Chernobyl are holding a Monster Auction in Kennagh Community Centre on Saturday 23rd July. Viewing will be from 1pm and the auction starts at 3pm, there is no commission fee to be paid. All funds raised will be used to help the young children who have been affected by the aftermath of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power facility. Any donations will also be greatly appreciated for this worthy cause.

This service is available in The Green, Edgeworthstown every Friday afternoon from 4.00 p.m. - 6.00 p.m.
FIELD DAY: Edgeworthstown District Development is holding its Family Field Day on Sunday 24th July 2011 in The Green, Edgeworthstown. A fun filled day for all the family. There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, games, raffle, kids go karts, magic show, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck, live music, refreshments, a barbecue and lots more...
RESIDENTS’ ASSOC: Many thanks to the residents who turned up for the first meeting of the newly formed Clover Well, Bracklin Park and Auburn Park Residents Association. Thanks also to Councillors Tom Victory and Michael Carrigy, local auctioneer Frank Greene and Fergal Sheridan for their attendance and input. The next meeting takes place in The Green on Friday 15th July at 8pm and all landlords, owners and tenants are welcome. We value everyone’s input.
