COMMUNITY GAMES - Our Annual Sports Day will take place in Emmet Park, Clonee this coming Saturday, the 7th of May and begins at 10 am sharp.

COMMUNITY GAMES - Our Annual Sports Day will take place in Emmet Park, Clonee this coming Saturday, the 7th of May and begins at 10 am sharp.

We have all the usual events for both boys and girls: Toddlers race for U4. 60 metres for U8 and U6. 80m for U8. 100m for U10, U12, U14 and U16. 200m for U10. 600m for U12. 800m for U14. 1500m for U16. 60m Hurdles for U10. 80m Hurdles for U14. 900m Walking Race for U13. Throw Ball for U12. Shot Putt for U14. Long Kick for U13. Long Puck for boys U12 and girls U14. Discus for boys U16. Javelin for girls U16. We will also have novelty races for all age groups – sack races and spud-and-spoon, as well as mothers’ and fathers’ races. All events are free of charge and there will be a shop on site. Hopefully the beautiful weather we have enjoyed over the Easter holidays will remain over the weekend for this event. Congratulations to our local Fianna Fail counsellor and pharmacist Pauric Loughrey son of Packie and Betty Clonee Killoe who exchanged nuptial vows with Natasha Clarke, daughter of Eugene and Dympna Ferriskill Granard joined by families in St Mary’s church Granard Co Longford last weekend. A sumptuous reception was immensely enjoyed afterwards in Killashee house hotel Naas Co Kildare. The parish extend good wishes to Pauric Natasha and their families for a future filled with great health and happiness.


The Pioneer Association in Ireland are experiencing a very big financial crisis and have appealed to members and non members if they could make a donation to ensure the survival of the pioneer movement in Ireland. Donation boxes will be placed at the church doors this weekend 7/8 May 2011.Your support is greatly appreciated in continuing the many years of empowering work within the pioneers association.

Table quiz

A charity table quiz in aid of St Lukes mission hospital Zambia will be held in Moyne Community School Arva Co Longford on Friday 6 May 2011 at 8.30pm. 20 euro table of four. Past pupil Garry Faughnan visiting.

The monthly ICA meeting will be held in Ennybegs Community Centre on Monday May 2011 at 8.30pm. All members are requested to please attend and new members are very welcome.


Congratulations to Sisters of Mercy on their celebrated 150th anniversary of their arrival in Longford. A commemorative booklet is available to mark this historic occasion.

Mini marathon

The Phoenix Centre for Disabled people in Longforrd are requesting persons to participate in the mini marathon which will be held in June 2011 in Dublin.
