The Latin School Players presents a widely acclaimed comedy 3 act play, “A Wake in the West” by kind permission of Michael J Ginnelly. SAFE TALK is a 3 hour suicide alertness programme that prepares participants to identify

persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. Participants can expect to leave SAFE TALK training more willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide.This free and certified course is being run on tomorrow Thursday 28th April 2011 in the Community Centre, Ballyconnell, From

This 8 week course is aimed at parents of school going children between the ages of 9 and 12 years of age. The Course will begin after Easter and will run on a Wednesday night at 8.00 p.m. To enrol or for more information please contact the South West Cavan CDP on 049 4336070.


The CDP are hosting the complete FETAC Level 5 in Occupational First Aid in the next few weeks. The cost of the training is €110.00 per person. The Cavan U-21 team were defeated in the All Ireland Final by Galway on Sunday last in Croke Park by 2-16 to 1-9 in a game that brought at least 15,000 Cavan supporters to headquarters. Hopes were high that this team would win the elusive first title at this level for Cavan but on the day they were outplayed for long periods. James and Peter Morris are members of the panel and are eligible again next year. We congratulate them on achieving so much and hopefully we will see more of them in the blue of Cavan in the future

In the game that followed Dublin defeated Kilkenny in the Hurling League Final and many people from this general area watched the game with more than a passing interest. Among the Dublin players are Full Back Thomas Brady – son of former Arva player White Thomas, Goalkeeper Gary Maguire – son of Hugh Ollie formerly from Legga, Shane Durkin Midfield – son of Thomas Durkin formerly from Crott. It’s great to see a new team achieving success and we congratulate them on a great victory.

The Killeshandra and Gowna Clubs reopened their new playing facilities last weekend with Killeshandra on Saturday evening where Cavan played Down while in Gowna on Monday Cavan played Longford. Both venues were bathed in brilliant sunshine with large attendances each day. On behalf of the people of the general Arva area we congratulate both clubs on their fine achievements

A charity Table Quiz will be held in the Latin School, Moyne on this Friday 6th May. €20 per table. Proceeds in aid of St Luke’s Mission, Zambia. Gary Faughnan a past pupil of Moyne Community School will be volunteering there this summer.
