The Irish Independent newspaper has been running a competition over the past few weeks called “Unsung Heroes” whereby all the candidates are drawn from outstanding players whose footballing career ended without winning an All-Ireland Senior Championship medal. Incredibly, there are not one, but two nominations for players from Cashel – John Donlon and Mick Casey who are nominated in the “Half-backs” section.

To have achieved this nomination is an incredible feat, considering all the other talent eligible nationally and the whole parish of Cashel is justifiably proud of both men who as we all know were and are pillars of our team and indeed our community.
