Arva February 23

The Irish Cancer Society held a very successful function in the Goalpost Bar in Arva on Friday night last where they had volunteers either shaving their heads or dying their hair to raise funds for the society. What a night it turned out with young and not so young taking part and entering into the spirit of the occasion.

There were red heads, pink heads, orange heads and all assorted colours imaginable. There were a number of heads shaved and beards shaved off with one lady getting a short back and sides. The best of it all was that the money raised was going to a worthy cause. The entire event was organised by Una Heraty and Danny Mc Entee and we congratulate them on a great night. Thanks must go to Mary Simpson and her girls for all the work they undertook as they were dying heads until very late. Well done to everyone who took part.

Killeshandra Drama Group present a Comedy spiced with a little romance: They hit the boards of The Corn Mill Theatre Carrigallen with their 6th full length production of a play entitled “Tankard Town” written by Christine Longford and directed by Colm McCormack. The play is set in Tankardstown House in Co. Meath in the late 1940’s. The old house is converted into a hotel when rations were in place. It was set in a time when the Irish/English relationship was hostile, and the English looked upon the Irish as uneducated and ignorant to the ways of the world. The cast of 12 move the plot along with farcical antics, and a combination of old world yuppies and English journalists, and drunks all engage in dodgy dealing, convincing plans spiced up with a little “Love” and culminating a love story that even the hardest heart in the audience will leave with a quiet grin. This play is filled with laughs delivered by an experience cast of natural actors and a director who is passionate about drama and delivering entertainment to audiences. This play runs for six nights from Fri. 11th Sat.12th, Sun. 13th March and the following weekend 18th, 19th and 20th March. Doors open at 8.00pm, starting at 8.30pm sharp. Booking at Corn Mill 049 4339612 or by email at Further enquires to Shea at 087 6871360.
