SYMPATHY

There is widespread regret in the Carrigallen and Longford district at the news of the death of Mrs Katie Cunnion which has occurred at the residence of her daughter Mrs Paula Morrissey, Tramore Co Waterford. She was a very hard working industrious woman all her life. She was predeceased by her husband seven years ago. The couple worked in England for many years and retired back to Longford before leaving for Tramore Co Waterford where she was to remain. She was a devout catholic all her life which was spent helping others. Indeed she will be sadly missed . May she RIP. Sympathy is extended to her son James Longford, daughter Paula Tramore Co Waterford, brothers James Tipperary, sister Miss Bessie Fitzpatrick Doogarry, nieces and nephews. Funeral and burial took place in Tramore Co Waterford. Mass offered for the repose of her soul in saint Mary’s parish Carrigallen & Drumeela.

DOG OWNERS

A number of sheep farmers in the district and over many parishes have suffered terrible losses in recent years as a result of vicious attacks by marauding dogs on their flocks, ewes and young lambs are particularly vulnerable at this time of year. Leitrim county council stress that it is especially important to ensure that your dog is kept in a secure place at night time. Even the most docile family pet can turn into a killer when roaming with a pack of dogs and sheep owners don’t like to have to shoot anyone’s dog. So this is why they appeal to dog owners to have them closed up at night. Community wardens will be carrying out door to door inspections during the coming weeks checking dog licences and ensuring that owners keep their dogs under control in a public place. Dog owners are also reminded that their dog must be identified with a collar and name tag. Stray dogs will be seized by the dog warden and removed to the Leitrim Dog Shelter. A reclaim fee will apply in circumstances where a dog has been impounded.
