Traders Association Meeting

A very important meeting for all traders/residents of the town will be held on Thursday, 10 September at 8pm in Granard Credit Union to discuss the Draft Document on Granard Traffic Review 2015. All traders and residents are urged to attend this meeting.

Grand Raffle

The Granard Branch of St Christopher’s Services is holding a grand raffle for two (2) tickets for the One Direction’s concert in the 3 Arena in Dublin on Sunday 18 October. Raffle tickets cost €5.00 each and can be purchased from SuperValu, Granard or any committee member. The raffle will be drawn at a function at John V. Donohue’s Lounge on Saturday the 19 September when there will also be other valuable prizes. Hope you will give this great event your support.

Granard CCE

The John Dungan Branch of Comhaltas will hold their AGM on Thursday, 17th of September at 8pm in the Granard Area Action Group Information Office Main St, Granard. The John Dungan branch is due to host the County Fleadh in May 2016, in Granard, in order for this to be a success we need new enthusiastic committee members who are willing to get involved. We hope to bring our Irish music/culture to the fore in celebrating the 1916 centenary.  Please show your support in keeping our tradition alive by attending the meeting on Thursday the 17 September.  

Culture evening

On Friday evening the 18 September in Ardagh Heritage Centre you are invited to come along to a culture evening where you can enjoy the best of Irish music, song and dance. All members are welcome to take part. (follow us on Facebook). 

AG Bingo

Bingo continues each Wednesday night at the Community Centre, Granard commencing at 8.45pm. Jackpot now stands at €20,000 in 42 calls or less. The second Jackpot is €2,400. Your continued support is appreciated. Proceeds go to Abbeylara and St. Mary’s G.A.A.

Monster Bingo

A date for your diary – Granard Motte Enterprise Centre are having a Monster Bingo on Sunday 18 October at 3.00pm in the Community Centre Granard. Your support will be appreciated.

Citizens Information

Citizens Information Outreach Service have resumed services at the Information Office Main Street Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Adult Learning Centre

Did you leave school early? Do you need help with Reading; Writing; Spelling; Maths or Basic Computers? Does your child need help with their homework? If you do, please call into the Adult Learning Centre Main Street Granard or phone 0436686211. The centre is now taking names for new classes commencing this month. These course are funded by Longford and Westmeath Education Training Board and the Department of Education and Skills.

The St. Vincent de Paul Shop, Main Street, Granard opens each Monday morning and every Friday 10.00am to 5.00pm and Saturday from 11.00am to 5.00pm as well as the first Tuesday of each month. Come along and bag a bargain while supporting a very worthy local cause.


The Irish Heart Foundation held their annual Church Gate collection on Saturday / Sunday 5/6 September. A total of €600 was collected at the three Masses in Granard. Thanks to everyone who contributed so generously and to the collectors who gave of their time.

Senior Co Championship

Emmet Og Killoe are through to the final of the Peter Hanley Motors sponsored Co. Longford Senior Championship following their win over Dromard on Sunday evening in Pearse Park Longford on a score line of 2-11 to 10pts. They now await the winners of Abbeylara and Clonguish who will contest for their position in the final on Sunday evening at 6.30pm in Glennon Bros. Pearse Park.


The death of Laurette Kiernan, Teranure, Dublin and formerly of Main Street, Granard, (Greville Arms Hotel) occurred peacefully at St. James’ Hospital Dublin on Monday, 31 August. Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Teranure on Wednesday followed by burial in the family grave at Granardkille Old Cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her sister Margot Gearty, Newtownforbes, formerly of Ballinacross, Granard; her nieces; nephews and extended family circle.
