Gowna students bursary

A Gowna students bursary to assist Gowna students undertaking a 3rd level course in 2015 is being provided by Gowna Community Development Association. There are six bursaries available at 500 euro each. Criteria: resident in Gowna hinterland and a college communication confirming acceptance of the student on a 3rd level course. Only one winner permitted from a family with multiple applicants. Applications by email sought with name address, mobile number and 3rd level college course to jerry.fitzpatrick@hotmail.com. A draw on Friday 18th September will determine the six successful applicants. Any further information required contact Jerry on 087 7953131.

Book of poems

At the Edge the first poetry collection of Kate Ennals, Drumbrisken, Loch Gowna was launched on Friday last. This book is now available at Loch Gowna post office 12 euro.

Wedding Bells

Congratulations to James McDowell, Mullinroe, Dring and Amanda O’Hara, Cloonaugh, Drumlish who were married on Friday, 28th August in St Mary’s Church, Drumlish. To celebrate the occasion a very enjoyable reception was held in the Landmark Hotel Carrick on Shannon. We wish the happy couple a long life of good health and happiness in their married life together.


Whist will resume on Wednesday, 30th September in St Brigid’s Community Centre Loch Gowna at 8.30pm. Everyone welcome.

Gowna Ladies GFC

Fundraising event. There will be a clothes plus other items in aid of Gowna ladies GFC on Saturday, 26th September. For more details of goods that can be collected please see notices in local shops.


We extend a warm welcome to Fr Michael Bannon on his appointment as parish priest to serve Gowna and Mullinalaghta parishes. We wish him good health happiness and God’s blessing in his new abode.

Social dancing classes

Social dancing classes take place every Thursday night in the Pikers Lodge from 8.30 – 10pm. Everyone welcome.


Please note that payments for group water schemes can now be made at the local post office along with Ulster Bank and AIB banking facilities.

Crumlin Hospital

Hughie Brady is again undertaking the walk in aid of Our Ladies Hospital for Sick Children Crumlin Dublin and to raise funds there will be a fundraiser in Hughie’s Bar Arva on Saturday next 12th September. On the night music by Kay and Nashville Sound.

Fitness & nutrition classes

25 Card Game

25 Card Game in St Brigid’s Community Centre every Tuesday night at 8pm. New players always very welcome.

Loch Gowna credit union sub office open for business every Saturday evening from 6-7.30pm.
