Your prayers are requested for the happy repose of the souls of Brian Drake, Harrow, London and Ballinacross, and late of Ballinulty, Dring, who died on Monday, 6 April; Elizabeth Brady, Creenagh, Longford, who died on Tuesday, 7 April; Annie Hennessy, Clonbroney, Ballinalee, who died on Friday, 10 April; Tommy Scanlon, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, who died on Tuesday, 14 April, Father of Aiden Scanlon, Carrickduff and Karen Buckley, Mourneabbey, Mallow, Co. Cork, and Glasgow, Scotland, who died earlier in the week. May they rest in peace.

Table Quiz

Abbeylara GAA club will host a fundraising table quiz in the Duke Pub in Dublin on Thursday, 23 April starting at 8.30pm; €40 per table/ 4 people per table. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Drama Group

The group are holding a 5K Walk/Fun Run/ Cycle in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund on Monday, 4 May at 2pm.  Registration takes place from 12.30pm in Crawford’s Lounge Abbeylara.  Entry fee €10 per person or €20 per family.  Your support would be greatly appreciated.  Members of the Done and Dusted cast will lead the walk in full costume.  Entertainment in Crawford’s afterwards.

Dring Festival

The annual Dring Festival will take place this year on 31 May on the shores of Lough Gowna in Dring car park. It is a day not to be missed! All proceeds on the day will go to St. Christopher’s in Longford.

‘The Field’

Bloom Garden Festival

Lus na Greine are organising a bus to the Bloom Garden Festival. There are still some seats available. If anyone is interested in going please contact the centre as soon as possible.

Ladies Mini Marathon

Training continues every Wednesday morning at Lus na Greine Resource Centre under the stewardship of a professional trainer. We welcome and deeply thank those who may consider walking on behalf of the centre.

Parish Faith Centre

There will be an open evening for the people of our Parish, towards the end of May, in our new Parish Centre. Rightly we will be the first to see the Centre and to have the first function in it, which will be a Parish Social. More details about this in the coming weeks. Thank you very much for your patience, understanding and support.

Dance

A Dance will take place on Friday, 12 June in Abbeylara Parish Centre with Derek Ryan and his band. More details in the coming weeks.

Family Field Day

The annual Abbeylara Family Field Day will be held this year on Sunday, 14 June. More details later.

Bingo

Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot now stands at €20,000. Seats are limited with this big Jackpot so come along early and enjoy the fun. IT COULD BE YOU!

Active Retirement

The Carers Association

Longford MS

Longford MS would like to say a big thank you to all who helped, organized and most importantly contributed to our recent church gate collection. Your generosity is very much appreciated. 

A Word of Thanks

Niamh Mulligan and Michelle Farrell would just like to extend their appreciation to everyone who turned up to participate in their table quiz which was held in Farrell’s Bar, Ballinalee last Saturday night which was a very successful night. They would also like to thank all those who donated raffle prizes, bought raffle tickets, those who couldn’t come but donated previously and anyone who helped out in any way. They would also like to thank Farrells Bar and also David Reynolds for being a fantastic MC on the night. The girls will be volunteering with the Global Medical and Public Health Brigade this coming June in Honduras and will be continuing their fundraising efforts in the coming weeks with another night planned for May 9 in Creegans, Bunlahy.

Blood Transfusion

The Mobile Unit of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service will visit St. Brigid’s Community Centre, Lough Gowna on Monday 27 April 2015 and Tuesday 28 April 2015 from 4.30pm to 8.00pm each day. Help ensure essential blood supplies are always available by giving blood regularly. It is important that we all remember that many patients in hospitals need our blood and this need never ceases. “The life you save could be your own”.

Tractor Run

Moatefarrel Vintage Club will host a Tractor Run in aid of Motor Neurone Disease on Sunday next April 26 with registration at Rawles Pub in Ballinalee starting at 10.00am. A special feature on the day will be the attendance of Harry’s Heroes who are the All Ireland Tractor Rebuilding Champions and they will give a demonstration at Rawles Pub between 4.00pm and 4.30pm and this is something not to be missed. Country Markets Move

Granard Country Markets wish to announce to all their customers and friends that from this Friday April 24 the market will be held in THE MOTTE PROJECT building opposite Kearney’s garage on the Dublin Road. All the usual bread, cakes, country fresh eggs, crafts and firewood will be available each Friday morning from 8.30am to 11.00am and there will be plenty of good parking and also free delivery to all town customers.
