On May 9th at 4.15am. DIL walk 5km, in aid of Pieta House will take place in the Mall. Pieta House provides free counselling to prevent suicide and self harm. You can register on line or at the Mall on Saturday next between 11 am and 2 pm. If you have registered on line you can pick up your t-shirt, remember to bring your registration slip. There will be other preregistration dates before the night. Please support this worthy cause and take part in an unforgettable experience.

Blueway Festival

Work is well underway now on the upcoming Blueway Festival which will take place in Clondra and Longford town from Friday, April 24th to Sunday, April 26th. At 2.30pm on Friday, 24th, Minister Heather Humphrey’s will officially launch the Camlin Canoe Trail, which is Ireland’s 2nd official Blueway. A large crowd is expected in Clondra for this official opening which will take place in a specially erected marquee in Richmond Harbour. A canoe paddle, organised by Canoeing Ireland will take place following the official launch. On Saturday, 25th April, events will take place along the new Royal Canal Walkway, commencing with a Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km run commencing at Slashers in Longford town. This run will take place along a loop of the Royal Canal but runners will not come as far as Clondra. For those who may not feel like running a marathon, a 7kms walk will take place at 5pm from Killashee, Clondra which is being organised by Longford Sports Partnership. Refreshments will be served in Clondra following this walk.

Saturday 25th April also marks the 20th birthday celebration of Backstage Theatre and a wonderful aeriel dance display will take place in the Market Square in Longford at approx. 2pm. A special production of Elves and Shoe Makers for children will follow in the theatre and if you have children aged between 4-8 years, don’t miss this wonderful show. Sunday 26th April is the highlight day of the Festival and all activities on that day will be centred in Clondra. Events will commence at 10.30am with a Family Cycle organised by Longford Sports Partnership, starting at The Richmond Inn. A full schedule of water based events will then take place between 1pm and 4pm and include Canoeing, Walking Tour, Try A Kayak, Sub Aqua Display and a display of art from our own Clondra Art School. Music and Food will be provided in Richmond Harbour to add to this fantastic family fun day. A reminder that an information night will take place in the Old School at 8pm on the 13th April for all those interested in helping out with the weekend or to hear more about what is happening. The yearly St Brigid’s lotto tickets are available from any of the committee members for €45. Purchasing this yearly subscription ensures you are entered into all draws throughout the year and you are assisting funding the club in the year ahead.

Congratulations to Darren Cosgrave who was presented with an award for “Player of the Year 2014” at the social night held in McPartland’s, Richmond Inn on Easter Sunday night.

Fundraiser

Fundraising for a replacement of a defibrillator for the St Brigids GAA club house Killashee: To assist in funding for a new defibrillator we are looking for Scrap metal you may have lying around. It can be dropped in Liam Farrell’s yard in Clondra during the week between 9am and 5pm. Alternatively we can organise collection for you.
