Drama Group

The annual general meeting of Legan Drama Group took place on Monday, 13th April in the GAA Clubhouse. We elected an almost new committee for 2015/2016. The outgoing committee were thanked for their long and dedicated service. The new committee is as follows President: Liam Butler; Vice President: Michael Kelly; Chairperson: Colm Ward; Vice Chairperson: Carmel Nulty; Secretary: Emer McCabe; Assistant Secretary: Mary Connell; Treasurer: Annmarie Donohoe; Vice Treasurer: Catherine Gunshinan; PRO: Eamon Tynan; Vice PRO: Jack Nulty. We would like to thank all who supported this year’s production of The Real McCoy by Tommy Marren. A special thanks to the stage crew, ushers, village scene setters, caterers, background workers, the actors and actresses. Eamon Tynan for his promotion and publicity and last but not least to the very generous sponsors. We would like to especially thank our director Vanessa Flood for her continued dedication and hard work and particularly in the days prior to staging her theatrical attitude the show must go on even in the face of personal tragedy. So once again we thank everyone involved in this year’s production and looking forward to next year already.

Tidy Towns

Operation Clean-Sweep will take place in Legan and surrounding areas this Wednesday, 22nd April. Legan Tidy Town members invites anyone available to meet at the Carpark Legan at 7.00pm.

Best of Luck

We wish our Senior Scór Questiontime team who are representing Legan Sarsfield Club and County Longford the best of luck in the All-Ireland final this Saturday in City West Dublin.

Inny Anglers

Results of Inny Anglers Lotto draw held on Saturday, 18th April in Slowey’s for a jackpot of €7,100. Numbers drawn were 1, 6, 18 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. Special draw winners of €40 each were Phil Slowey and Bob McGonigle. This week’s draw takes place in The Hill Carrickboy for jackpot of €7,150. Tickets now on sale. Club members on Lotto duty for month of May are Frank Lyons and Brian Hunt.

Tea Day

Results of GAA Lotto draw held on Tuesday, 7th April for a jackpot of €10,000. Numbers drawn were 1, 15, 24 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winner of €100 was Geraldine Gilchrist. Last week’s draw took place on Monday, 13th April in Slowey’s for a jackpot of €10,000. Numbers drawn were 7, 15, 24 and 25. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winners of €50 each were Vera Flood and Benny McHugh. This week’s draw took place on Monday 20th April in The Hill Carrickboy and results will be published next week.

50/50 Draw

The lucky winner of Naoi Rath Ré Creche 50/50 draw held on Sunday, 5th April was Laura Hogan, Ballycloghan. The winner on Sunday, 12th April was Gretta Farrell, Listreena. The prize money was €200 each.


The annual general meeting of Legan ICA Guild took place on Monday, 13th April in the GAA Clubhouse. The committee for the year ahead is as follows; President: Mary Carthy, Secretary: Margaret McDonald; Treasurer: Vera Flood; Elsie Moxham Craft Officer, PRO: Margo Ward all outgoing. Newly elected officers are Rosemary Ross Arts Officer; Bernadette Gannon Produce Officer and Annmarie Donohoe Teachta secretary. Upcoming social events were discussed and members will visit Bloom in the Park, Women walk the World in Omagh, Garden Party in An Grianan. The Federation AGM takes place in The Sin Bin this Wednesday 22nd April. Supper will be served from 7.00- 8.00pm.


We extend our sincere sympathy to the family of Pat Fallon, Aughnasilla who passed away last week following a long illness. Also to the family of Marian Farrell, nee Dolan, Moydow and formerly of Carrickboy. The death occurred last week of May Dardis, nee Grennan, Greystones and formerly of Legan village in her 95th year. She was born and reared in the business which is now Mitchell’s. She attended Legan National School and later taught there for some time.

Gun Club

Legan Gun Club would like to take this opportunity to show their appreciation and thanks to all those who gave sponsorship to the club in support of our recent open shoot at the Longford County Ploughing Match.  The sponsors included the following: Klasmann & Deilmann (Midland Peat) David Mulvehill Gun Shop Ballymahon, Quinns Supply Stores, Edgeworthstown, CPF, Little Water Street Longford, Lakeland Shooting Grounds Mullingar. Also a special thanks and note of appreciation to Cashel and Moydow Gun Clubs for use of equipment on the day and all other clubs who offered their help and assistance. Thanks to all clubs who came and generously supported our event making it an enjoyable day for all.  Thanks to those who travelled from Galway and Roscommon. Hall of Fame

Legan Sarsfield GAA Club held their annual Dinner Dance on Friday night last in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule. Attended by players, former players, supporters and dignitaries, a very enjoyable night was had by all. A presentation was made to the members of the 1990 Championship and League winning team. Dylan Boylan was the recipient of the Young Player of the year award. Kevin Moran received the Senior Player of the Year. A presentation was made to the Junior Scór team who advanced to the All-Ireland final earlier this year. A Special Hall of Fame award and presentation was made to TJ Ward in recognition of his 50 years of lifelong dedication and commitment to the Club. A life history of his Football and administration to his Club and County was compiled and presented by colleague and former All-Ireland Referee John Bannon. This was enhanced by a video presentation of the many events during his life. A Bouquet of Flowers was presented to his wife Aggie by Carmel Nulty Secretary of the Club for her support and contribution to the Club and County over the years. We congratulate all concerned who received awards and particularly to the organisers of a very successful night.

Fianna Fáil AGM

The annual general meeting of Legan Cumann Fianna Fáil takes place on Monday, 27th April in the GAA Clubhouse at 9pm. All members and lapsed members please attend and new members welcome.
