Longford Ploughing Committee have selected Legan for the 81st annual Ploughing Championship and Field Day on Sunday, 12th April. The host Farmers are Pauric Dalton and Frank Lyons and the venue is Foxhall. This is the most prestigious outdoor field event of the year and will include the only Celebrity Challenge in Ireland. Hopefully, weather permitting a great day of good ploughing and good general entertainment will be had on the day.
Lourdes Assisted Sick Fund
A special collection to fund sending sick people from the area to Lourdes will be taken up at Masses this weekend. Please give generously to this worthy cause.
Legan ICA Guild members extend sympathy to Elizabeth Fahy and the extended Moran family, late of Carrigeen on the passing of Mary, a founding and staunch member of ICA for many years, nÃ bheidh a leithÃ©id ann arÃs.
Longford Federation ICA Table Quiz will be held in The Chestnut Tree, Killashee on Tuesday, 17th February at 8pm. Table of three is â‚¬30 and is also open to non ICA members. ICA winning team will represent Longford in the National final in An Grianan in March. Legan Guild will host the Spring Federation meeting in The Rustic Inn Abbeyshrule on Tuesday 24th February. Supper will be served from 7.00 to 8.00pm. A speaker from Longford Womenâ€™s Link will attend followed by Workshop on what members expect/want from ICA going forward. Sports Officer has organised a walk this Sunday 15th February along the Canal in Longford meeting at Market Square at 3.00pm.
Last weekâ€™s Inny Anglers Lotto draw was held on Saturday 7th in Mitchellâ€™s for a jackpot of â‚¬10,000. Numbers drawn were 12, 19, 24 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. Special draw winners of â‚¬40 each were Jim Murtagh and Kevin Gannon. This weekâ€™s draw takes place in Sloweyâ€™s for a jackpot of â‚¬7,050. Tickets are now on sale. Club members would like to extend deepest sympathy to the sister, relatives and friends of Mary Moran Carrigeen who passed away last week. May she rest in Peace.

Match three winners of â‚¬50 each were David Nulty and Noelle & John Jnr. This weekâ€™s draw took place in Connaughtonâ€™s Rathowen and results will be published next week.
Death of Mary Moran
The death occurred on Thursday last of Mary Moran in her ninety fourth year at Our Ladyâ€™s Manor Nursing Home, Edgeworthstown. Mary was one of our most loved and highly regarded members of the community for many years. Renowned for her unique sense of humour and wit her intelligent opinions on all matters local national and indeed worldwide. She was involved in many local organisation over the years. A founder member of the Aurora Hall fundraising committee, first rural librarian in the old Legan Hall, a member of the local Drama Group and starred in such productions as The Whiteheaded Boy, The Down Express and later in The Able Dealer, A Will and a Woman, Spreading the News to name but a few. She always turned in award winning performances. She was a superb storeyteller, historian and poetry writer. She was a founder member of Legan ICA and served until relatively recently. Her Removal took place on Saturday evening to St Maryâ€™s Church, Legan and was received with a Guard of Honour by Legan ICA members and Legan Drama Group members. She was laid to rest on Sunday following Requiem Mass in Foxhall Cemetery. To her sister Elizabeth, family relatives and friends we extend our sincere sympathy.
We extend deepest sympathy to the Rooney family, Corracorkey on the death of Mary Rooney, wife of Joe, Edgeworthstown who passed away last week following a long illness. May she rest in Peace.
