Picture of the month
Staff in the local Studies Department at Ballinamore Library are displaying a ‘Picture of the Month’. As its name suggests, there will be a different picture each month and these items will be chosen from the Local Studies Photographs, Posters and Art Collection. The February ‘Picture of the Month’ is a framed photograph of Main Street, Ballinamore taken about 1929 or earlier, which was donated to Leitrim County Library by Columba Cryan in 2011. In the picture there are only 2 motor vehicles parked along the street. There is also a number of ESB Poles visible, which would suggest that electricity was supplied to the town at that time. There are a number of shops with items on display outside. P. Stenson is a name over the door of one shop’s on Lower Main Street. Opposite Stenson’s shop, it would appear that there was a hardware shop with items on display outside. This picture will be on display in Local Studies during the month of February and our opening hours are Mon, Wed & Fri 10 - 5.30; Tues & Thur 10 - 8; Sat 10 – 5, with daily lunch closing 1.30 – 2.30pm.
