Advent Giving Tree
In Holy Trinity and Saint James’ Churches from 1st Sunday of Advent to New Year’s Day. Following the wonderful success of the Advent Giving Tree in our two churches last year, the Pastoral Care Group and Altar Societies have mounted the project again this year. Sadly we are all aware of the extent of poverty and hardship that exists in our midst, and often behind an outward appearance of ‘plenty’. The need is great and the response is urgent. Please donate food hampers and fuel as generously as you can. Take your donations to Mass (weekday and/or Sunday) during Advent and place them at the GIVING TREE. Describe what you have donated on the ’green leaves’ (in the box at the tree), and then hang the leaves on the tree. Our Advent Giving Trees, adorned with your food tags, will become our CHRISTMAS TREES, with the addition of lights, reminding us that Jesus Christ our Lord is the LIGHT OF THE WORLD and the reason for the season! “Let there be no poor among you†(Deutoronomy 15:4)
Console National Charity for Suicide
For this region takes place on Sunday next at 4pm in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford, County Mayo. This is a special way to remember our loved ones, family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, who have died by suicide and to celebrate their lives. It is structured as a Healing Service with music, song, poetry and readings. Stars are placed on the JESSIE TREE with the names of our loved ones. It is a candle lit atmosphere where people are invited to bring a picture of their loved one who has died and place it on the Altar while the Service takes place. Everyone recently or long time bereaved is welcome. Everyone is invited to a cuppa and a chat in the Parish Office, beside the Church, after the Service. Footnote: Pooling of transport is suggested. Contact any member of our Parish Support Group, Father Brian, or the parish office, 043 3323110, email@example.com
Boys and girls this is just a reminder to bring your chosen toy (that’s in perfect condition) to either the Vigil or 11am Mass on the 3rd Sunday of Advent (December 14) for Santa. Just before the final blessing of the Mass Father Brian will invite all the children to carry their toys to the STABLE for Santa’s Elves to collect after everyone has gone home. The elves will take your toys to Santa’s Workshop in Lapland to be filled into his sacks and put on his sleigh in time for Rudolf and the other reindeers to pull Santa’s sleigh across the sky on Christmas Eve with toys for boys and girls in every country in the world. On your way back from the STABLE you will lead Father Brian and everyone in church in singing a special song for Jesus, or maybe Santa. Santa’s (Saint Nicholas) feast-day is on December 6 (next Saturday). SANTA CLAUS is a short form of Saint Nicholas. On that day a figurine of Santa and his wonderful story will be at the ‘stable’ in Holy Trinity and Saint James’ Churches. Nicholas is a fourth-century Bishop of Myra in modern-day Turkey. He is the great patron of children and of Christmas giving. He lived in the fourth century. This famous saint was born to wealthy parents in Asia Minor, which is modern-day Turkey. Thank you boys and girls for helping Santa.
