The last meeting of Castlepollard Gardening Club was a presentation by Barry Kavanagh on â€œGardening At This Time of Yearâ€. He gave a very interesting talk and brought many plants with him. He spoke about their advantages and disadvantages and answered many and varied questions.
Castlepollard GardeningClub is holding the annual Christmas gala flower arranging night on Tuesday night, December 9th, at 8.00pm in Hotel Castlepollard. Mary Owens from Dublin is the presenter this year and a good eveningâ€™s entertainment is guaranteed. All flower arrangements will be raffled afterwards. Admission fee of 15.00 euro includes supper. All are welcome.
We extend deepest sympathy to Jimmy Moran, Whitehall, Castlepollard, his wife Kathleen and family, on the death of Jimmyâ€™s mother, Mrs. Lily Moran, Legan, Co. Longford, which took place on Wednesday, November 19th, peacefully at Laurel Lodge Nursing Home, Longford. The remains reposed at Our Ladyâ€™s Manor Chapel, Edgeworthstown, on Friday, November 21st, followed by removal to St. Maryâ€™s Church, Legan, arriving at 8.00pm. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass on Saturday, November 22nd, at 11.00am, with internment afterwards to Foxhall Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Mrs. Moran had been predeceased by her husband Jim and son Philip. She is survived by her sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, other relatives and wide circle of friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
Right to Water meeting
A Right to Water public meeting takes place this coming Thursday night, December 4th, in the Community Centre, Granard, Co. Longford. This will be the only meeting about the proposed water charges in Co. Longford or South Cavan prior to the National march in Dublin on December 10th. Sinn Fein spokesperson on Communication, Energy and National Resources, Martin Colreavy TD, will address the meeting along with Sinn Fein councillors and recent bye-election candidates Martin Kenny from Leitrim and Paul Hogan from Westmeath. All are welcome.
Castlepollard Credit Union will hold their annual general meeting on Monday, December 8th, in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard, at 8pm. All members are cordially invited to attend. The Prize draw will take place on the night with a total prize fund of 21,000 euro. At the end of the meeting there will be a raffle for all in attendance followed by refeshments.
Castlepollard Fire & Rescue Service were called out shortly after 4pm on Saturday afternoon last, November 29th, to support units from Mullingar Fire & Rescue Service in attendance at a warehouse fire in the former Kilroyâ€™s warehouse premises at Pearse Street, Mullingar. Fire fighters using breathing apparatus brought the fire under control. Gardai were in attendance, and the scene was subsequently examined by Garda forensic investigators.
