Right to Water
A public meeting this Thursday night, 4 December in the Community Centre, Granard. This will be the only meeting about the proposed water charges in Co Longford or South Cavan prior to the national march in Dublin on 10 December. Sinn Fein spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Mr Micheal Colreavy TD will address the meeting along with Sinn Fein Councillors and recent by-election candidates Mr Martin Kenny from Leitrim and Mr Paul Hogan from Westmeath. Everyone welcome.

Congratulations to author Jude Flynn who launched his 12th edition of Fireside Tales in Longford Library on Thursday night last. A most enjoyable evening was had by all in attendance. The book is currently on sale in Donoghueâ€™s Hardware Store, Main Street, Granard. Cost â‚¬20 each. There are many items of local interest and this book will make an ideal Christmas gift for family/friends at home or away.
Clonfin commemoration committee will hold their annual church gate collection at all Masses in Granard this weekend 6 and 7 December. The committee are currently organizing a general clean up of the site in Clonfin as it has recently become very overgrown and will really appreciate all the support it receives. Donations can be given to any committee member.

If so then come along to the Granard Christmas Market which takes place on Main Street on Sunday, 7 December from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. Exhibitors are required to set up their own stall with Outdoor Canopy and Own Insurance Cover. There will be a Unique Live Crib, the Christmas lights will be switched on and Santa will also arrive on the day. This promises to be a great festive family day out in the town so why not come along and enjoy the fun!

The Development Committee of Granard Buttermarket held their meeting on 18 November 2014 in the office of Granard Area Action Group Ltd. It was a night to celebrate as the Financial Grant had come through from the Heritage Council for the restoration of the wrought iron gates of the Butter market. Eamonn Creamer who restored the gates was present to receive the cheque. Everyone was in praise of the work of this talented man. Tributes were paid to the participants on the Community Employment Project sponsored by Granard Area Action Group Ltd and funded by the DSP on the tremendous work they did in the preparation of the iron-work and painting the restored gates under the guidance of Eamonn and Joe Murphy, C.E. Supervisor.
Steve Warrilow, Archeologist did a Report on the site and delivered his findings to an interested group for which he was congratulated. Thanks was also expressed to Mairead Ni Chonghaile, Heritage Officer with Longford County Council who assisted the project with her expertise. The next meeting will be in the New Year.

Longford Dyslexia workshop hold their annual collection throughout the county at all Masses on Saturday 6 and 7 December. This is the biggest and main fundraiser for the group and enables them to keep fees as low as possible. This allows all children requiring help facilitate the groups classes. Please support.
