The annual Novena to our Blessed Lady continues each Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Church, Granard until Wednesday, 17 December. I.C.A.

The next meeting of Granard I.C.A. guild will take place on this Thursday, 4 December at 8pm. in the Credit Union Meeting Room. Supper will be served by the committee. Those travelling to the Christmas Party night on Saturday, 6 December are reminded to bring balance of €25 to this meeting. New members are always very welcome to join us.

Right to Water

A public meeting this Thursday night, 4 December in the Community Centre, Granard. This will be the only meeting about the proposed water charges in Co Longford or South Cavan prior to the national march in Dublin on 10 December. Sinn Fein spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Mr Micheal Colreavy TD will address the meeting along with Sinn Fein Councillors and recent by-election candidates Mr Martin Kenny from Leitrim and Mr Paul Hogan from Westmeath. Everyone welcome.

SVP Shop

The shop has relocated to Main Street, Granard in what was formerly Morrissey’s Shop premises. Wonderful new selection of stock with something for everyone. Come along and bag a bargain.

Fireside Tales

Congratulations to author Jude Flynn who launched his 12th edition of Fireside Tales in Longford Library on Thursday night last. A most enjoyable evening was had by all in attendance. The book is currently on sale in Donoghue’s Hardware Store, Main Street, Granard. Cost €20 each. There are many items of local interest and this book will make an ideal Christmas gift for family/friends at home or away.

Collection

Clonfin commemoration committee will hold their annual church gate collection at all Masses in Granard this weekend 6 and 7 December. The committee are currently organizing a general clean up of the site in Clonfin as it has recently become very overgrown and will really appreciate all the support it receives. Donations can be given to any committee member.

Christmas Market

Would you like to display or sell your Christmas Wares this festive Season? If so then come along to the Granard Christmas Market which takes place on Main Street on Sunday, 7 December from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.  Exhibitors are required to set up their own stall with Outdoor Canopy and Own Insurance Cover.  There will be a Unique Live Crib, the Christmas lights will be switched on and Santa will also arrive on the day.  This promises to be a great festive family day out in the town so why not come along and enjoy the fun!

Moatsiders Active Age Group & Granard Writers

Granard Choir, Granard Harpists and Granard Writers will be joining us at our next meeting for an afternoon of Christmas Carols and Christmas Tales. This will be a delightful afternoon in Granard Library at 4pm on 4 December. All are welcome to join us.

Local Historical/Heritage Society.

Many thanks to Fr. Tom Murray from Longford Historical Society who joined us at our last meeting he was most helpful and informative. Table Quiz

Bunlahy National School Parents Association is holding a Table Quiz on Friday, 5th December 2014 in Creegan’s Pub, Bunlahy at 9pm. Your support on the night would greatly appreciated.

Bingo

Bingo continues each Wednesday evening at 8.45pm in the Community Centre, Granard. Jackpot this week is €18,400 in 42 calls or less. Proceeds go to St. Mary’s G.A.A. and Abbeylara GFC. Your continued support is much appreciated.

Citizens Information

An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service will attend Granard Area Action Group Information Office Main, Street, Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary.

Night Vigil

Buttermarket

The Development Committee of Granard Buttermarket held their meeting on 18 November 2014 in the office of Granard Area Action Group Ltd. It was a night to celebrate as the Financial Grant had come through from the Heritage Council for the restoration of the wrought iron gates of the Butter market. Eamonn Creamer who restored the gates was present to receive the cheque. Everyone was in praise of the work of this talented man. Tributes were paid to the participants on the Community Employment Project sponsored by Granard Area Action Group Ltd and funded by the DSP on the tremendous work they did in the preparation of the iron-work and painting the restored gates under the guidance of Eamonn and Joe Murphy, C.E. Supervisor.

Steve Warrilow, Archeologist did a Report on the site and delivered his findings to an interested group for which he was congratulated. Thanks was also expressed to Mairead Ni Chonghaile, Heritage Officer with Longford County Council who assisted the project with her expertise. The next meeting will be in the New Year.

Siopa Lus na Greine

We have a large selection of party dresses, jackets & shoes new in for Christmas, also men’s suits , shirts etc. beautiful children’s clothes and a huge range off cuddly toys, games and books. We welcome your cast offs, everything accepted. We can arrange to pick up, simply call the Centre. An Siopa will be open on Sunday, 7th, watch out for extended opening hours over Christmas. We welcome all our customers to celebrate our 1st Anniversary with us on 5 December. An Siopa is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. We look forward to dressing you for Christmas and helping you with your gift list. All funds raised go directly and totally to projects in the community.

Granard Christmas Lights Committee would like to thank everyone who supported their recent fundraisers in anyway by buying tickets for the draw, the fancy dress, the tractor run and the church gate collection. Your support was greatly appreciated. Hope it lights up your Christmas.

Dyslexia Workshop

Longford Dyslexia workshop hold their annual collection throughout the county at all Masses on Saturday 6 and 7 December. This is the biggest and main fundraiser for the group and enables them to keep fees as low as possible. This allows all children requiring help facilitate the groups classes. Please support.

Safeguarding Children

A message from Bishop Francis Duffy – during the season of Advent many children will be involved in preparations for Christmas liturgies. It is a special time for them and for their families. I wish to thank the Safeguarding Representatives in the 41 parishes in the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise for their work in ensuring the safety of children in all Church related activities.
