Christmas Tree

The traditional Christmas tree will be switched on at the Clock Tower in Kenagh Village on Saturday night, December 13th at 8pm. There will be street entertainment, refreshments, a bonfire and treats for the children. All children of the locality are invited to attend.


The travelling crib has begun its journey around the parish on this first week of advent. There are a few vacant evenings remaining for anyone who wishes to host the crib. It will continue its trip until christmas eve when it will be placed near the alter for midnight mass.

Christmas Craft Fair

Abbeyshrule Annual Christmas Craft Fair will be held on Sunday, 14th December from 12-6pm at The Rustic Inn. There will be 20+ Art, Craft, and Food Stalls and lots of Special Christmas gifts on sale. Also from 1 to 2.30pm/ 2.30pm to 4pm there will be children’s Craft Workshops (€3 per child) . Festive food served all day and there will be a special appearance by Santa and Mrs. Clause at 4.15pm with storis/Music/gifts (€3 per child) Raffle in aid of M.W.B Autism support. Progressive 25

Progressive 25 winners in Kenagh centre last Thursday night were Bill and Pete, eleven games, they win €80. Mark and Noreen, ten games, they win €50. Table prizes go to Paddy and Mick, Niall and Liz, they get €25 each.

Raffle: Mike Carroll, Betty Geraghty, Pat Larkin, Mary Cahill, Val Mulvihill, all win €10 each.

Advent Food Appeal

We try to support the St. Vincent de Paul in their efforts once again this year. Items of non perishable food can be brought into the Church over the next two weekends and they will be delivered to the most needy individuals and families. Thank you in advance for your co-operation and generosity.

Christmas Craft Fair

The annual Christmas Craft Fair will be held in St. Dominic’s Community Centre, Kenagh on Saturday, 13th December. To book a stall contact Dervla 087-6970372 or Olive on 086 8511568. Supporting the Kenagh branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association. There will be lots of unique Christmas gifts on sale through the day. Starting at 11am.

Table Quiz

Newtowncashel Tidy Towns committee are manning a table quiz in the Pier Inn, Lisnacusha on this coming Friday, December 5th, starting at 9pm. Table of four is €40. There will be cash prizes with raffle and refreshments.


Kenagh ploughing club will be holding an important meeting in Cooney’s Hotel, Ballymahon on this Wednesday night at 9pm. All members and interested members please attend.


Don’t forget the Christmas whist drive in the Lecture Hall, Kenagh on Tuesday night December 9th. The usual prizes with extra Christmas fare throughout the night.


Congratulations to Sarah Plummer, Casey Court who celebrated her 21st birthday with a party of relatives and friends last Saturday night.

Book Launch

Volume five of ‘’ Ramblers through Kilcommock’’ will be launched in Gavs’ Bar, Kenagh on Tuesday night, December 9th at 9pm. Declan Nerney will be the guest speaker with other dignitaries, back up music by Sharon Turley. Books will be on sale at €10 each.

Ministers Visit

Kenagh and surrounding areas was privileged to play host to two Ministerial visits over the the past eight days. Simon Harris paid a visit last Saturday week while Minister for Heritage and Tourism, Heather Humphries, spent at least two hours in the district last Saturday, November 29th. She was extremely interested in the proposed link up of the Royal Canal Centre and the Bog walk which is well under way at present. The minister was met by members of Corlea staff, Wetlands Heritage Ireland Kenaghs co-op and elected representatives. She promised to call back again early in the new year, hopefully with grant aid for the proposed projects.

Bishops Visit

Newly ordained Bishop Francis Duffy, paid his Pastoral visit to Kilcommock Parish over the past weekend. Bishop Francis celebrated mass is Saint Dominic’s Church on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. After mass he moved around with the congregation shaking hands and making new acquaintances.


The numbers down in Kenagh GAA Lotto for November 30th were 4-8-10-19. There were five match, three winners, Peter and Olive Gill, Drumlish; Damien Ferguson, Co Cavan, Joey McGann, Derralough; Nellie Keegan, Barry; Sean Penrose, Ballinacarrigy, all win €20 each.


Kenagh G.A.A club will be holding their annual general meeting on this Friday night, Decemebr 5th at 9pm. All member please take note. The Kenagh G.A.A Dinner Dance will be held in the Rustic Inn on December 27th at 9pm. Tickets are available from club members.


Congradulations and best wishes to Sarah Rhatigan, daughter of John and Mary, Corlea and Christopher Hegarty who were married in St. Dominic’s Church, Kenagh on Saturday, Novemeber 29th. Celebrant Father Barden. Made of Honour was Sharon Percival, Bridesmaid was Aoife Duggan. Best man was Dominic Hegarty and Groomesman was Ollie Hegarty. Pageboy was Ethan Rathiagn and flowergirls were Kacey Rhatigan and Elva Hegarty. Readers were Deirdre Percival and Jason Rhatigan. Prayers were read by Tyler Rhatigan, Joshua Heneghan, Noreen Murray, Sarah Hegarty and Ryan Kennedy. The Reflection was read by Breege Cassidy and Church music was rendered by Patricia Lane and Anthony McDermott. We wish the happy couple many years of wedded bliss.


There will be a meeting of Kenagh Guild of FCA in St. Dominic’s community centre on Monday night, December 8th at 8.30pm. All members please attend.
