St. Columbaâ€™s fundraiser
St. Columbaâ€™s G..F.C have reached their first Senior Championship Final in 62 years. As a community we are very proud of the teamâ€™s achievement. The club are trying to raise some funds to help with the preparation of the team for the County Final. We are a small community and as in the past we are depending on the communityâ€™s support and generosity. Club members will call to households in the next week or so with a letter outlining the fundraising options. Your support would be gratefully appreciated. If you are not in a position to support the fundraiser, that will be quite acceptable.
Mullahoran-Mullinalaghta Gun Club will hold their annual draw in the Hideaway Bar on Saturday 1st November. First prize is a plasma widescreen TV. â‚¬200 will go to the second person pulled out of the hat. â‚¬100 goes to the third winner. There are numerous other spot prizes. Tickets are â‚¬5 each and are available from club members and in local shops. Your support would be gratefully appreciated.
The Longford Branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland would like to announce that their church gate collection will be held on Saturday, 27th and Sunday, 28th September throughout the county. The money raised will greatly contribute to their continued services in the area. These include a home care service, a respite service, a transport service and a day care facility. All of these services are dedicated to respecting the rights of people with Alzheimerâ€™s disease and supporting their carers. Please give generously. The Granard Branch of St. Christopherâ€™s are holding a charity evening with The Merchant Archers at Creegans, Bunlahy on Saturday, 4th October 2014. There will be a raffle and door prizes. Tickets are available from any committee member or on the door. Please support and have a great night.
Granard Credit Union Launches Contest CU Factor
Have you got the CU factor, if yes you could be on your way to winning â‚¬500 courtesy of Granard Credit Union. Ten to nineteen year olds in the Granard area are invited to share their talents as part of a new talent competition organized by Granard Credit Union. The talent show is open to all dancers, singers, bands, jugglers, comedy acts etc. Closing date for application is this Thursday 25th September. Auditions are scheduled to take place on Saturday 27th September and the local final will be held in Granard Community Centre on Saturday 4th Oct. The top two acts will go forward to represent Granard Credit Union in Ballinasloe in the regional final on Saturday 18th October with a top prize of â‚¬1000. Application forms are available from the counter at Granard Credit Union.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with the Rosary takes place in St. Columbaâ€™s Church each Thursday evening from 8pm - 9pm. All are welcome.

As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Irish dancing classes continue in Mullinalaghta Community Centre every Monday from 6.30pm. - 7.30pm. Beginners are welcome.
Night at the Dogs
Longford Harriers have given great support to Mullinalaghta Development Council with the fundraising for our community walkway for the past few years. They are having their own fundraising â€˜Night at the Dogsâ€™ at Longford Dog Track on this Friday, 26th September at 8pm. Admission is â‚¬10. They would appreciate support on the night.
On Thursday, 25th September at 7pm in Crawfordâ€™s Bar, Abbeylara enrolment for music lessons (tin whistle, piano accordion, keyboard) will take place. Music teacher is Philip Clarke. Price is â‚¬4 per class.
