Alzheimer Society of Ireland
The Longford Branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland would like to announce that our church gate collection will be held on this Saturday and Sunday, 27 and 28 September throughout the county. The money raised will greatly contribute to our continued services in the area. These include a home care service; a respite service; a transport service and a day care facility. All of these services are dedicated to respecting the rights of people with Alzheimerâ€™s disease and supporting their carers. Please give generously. Cycle for Marie
Brendan and Carmel would like to extend a very big thank you to all who made this cycle in aid of the Irish Cancer Society such a great success. To all the cyclists, stewards, people who made donations, those who organized the refreshments on the day, provided transport, helped with First Aid and assisted in any other way, we appreciate it so much. We had over sixty cyclists on the day and we thank you all for your great support.
Thank you to all who supported the Coffee morning in the Resource Centre and in McElvaneyâ€™s, Coolarty last Thursday,18 September in aid of Longford Hospice Homecare. A total of â‚¬1,000 was raised for this great service so once again many thanks to everyone.

Granard Credit Union Launches Talent Contest CU factor - Have you got the CU factor? if yes you could be on your way to winning the top prize of â‚¬500 courtesy of Granard Credit Union. Ten to nineteen year olds in Granard area are being invited to share their talents as part of a new talent competition in the area organised by Granard Credit Union. The talent show is open to all dancers, singers, bands, jugglers, comedy acts etc. The closing date for applications is 25 September 2014. Auditions are scheduled to take place on Saturday 27 September and the local final will take place in Granard Community Centre on Saturday, 4 October. The top two acts will go forward to represent Granard Credit Union in the regional final on Saturday, the 18 October in Ballinasloe with a top prize of â‚¬1,000. The death of Johnny Cronogue, Longford Road, Granard and formerly of Church Street occurred on Thursday last at Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar. Removal took place from his late residence on Saturday evening to St. Maryâ€™s Church. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday followed by burial in Granardkille Old Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
