The popular morning Bridge sessions resume this Wednesday in Cooneyâ€™s Hotel. Each session lasts from 10.30 to 11.30am and a snack will be included. All welcome.

The Longford Branch of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland will be holding their church gate collection on Saturday, 27th and Sunday, 28th September throughout the county. The money raised will greatly contribute to their continued services in the area. These include a Home care service, a respite service, a transport service and a day care facility. All of these services are dedicated to respecting the rights of people with Alzheimers disease and supporting their Carers. Please give generously. St. Matthews church choir has resumed practice after the summer break. The group have their weekly practice sessions in the church on Wednesday nights at 8.30pm. New members always welcome. If you are interested, please call Mary Clancy at 09064-32491.

Congratulations to Patrick Rock, son of Noel and Marian, St. Matthews Park who got married on September 5th last to Elaine Hogan, daughter of Brendan and Maura, Empor, Ballynacargy at St. Matthews Church, Empor. The lovely wedding ceremony was celebrated by Fr. John Nally, Ballynacargy assisted by Fr. Padraig McGowan, Ballymahon with the beautiful music provided by Kerrie Penrose, Niamh Penrose and Jacquie Oâ€™Meara. Elaine looked stunning on her special day in an ivory coloured Wedding gown assisted by her Bridesmaids, her friend Marie McDonald and Patrickâ€™s sister Lisa both of whom looked great in their one-shouldered magenta dresses. Also looking very pretty was the Flower girl Laura Hogan, niece of the Bride. Best man on the day was Michael Lloyd, a friend of Patrick and another friend, Matthew Kearney was his Groomsman. The beautiful flowers at the Church and also the Bridal partyâ€™s flowers were arranged by Elaineâ€™s mother, Maura , well done Maura. The newly-weds Patrick and Elaine, their families and lots of friends celebrated the marriage at a Reception in Glasson Golf and Country Club and danced the night away to the music of â€œMoon Lightâ€. Well done also to Elaineâ€™s father, Brendan who made the 3-tier Cake for the wedding. Among the many guests who attended were Patrickâ€™s aunt Mary and her husband Sean and their family who travelled over from England for the event. We hope you all enjoyed the day. Patrick and Elaine wish to thank everybody who joined them on their very special day and for all the lovely presents, also to John Martin, their Driver for the day, to Andrea Duncan who did the photography and Michael Carey on Video. We wish the happy couple, who are presently on Honeymoon touring America, many long years of good health, wealth and happiness.
The Innyside Singers will resume after their summer break at 8pm on Thursday, 25th September at the usual venue, Skellyâ€™s, Main Street. Newcomers always welcome, male and female. If you enjoy singing, drop in to the group, who meet every week at the same time, you wont be disappointed.
Parish Pastoral Council
An Information meeting for prospective members of a new Parish Pastoral Council will be held in The Ministry Room in the Sisters of Mercy house on Monday next, 29th September at 8pm. Fr. James McKiernan, Diocesan Pastoral Centre will explain the nature and objectives of a Parish Pastoral Council. New Singing Group
A new singing group open to all singers and musicians age 10+ who want to develop their musical talents is being organised. Low Cost Counselling
Relaxation and Meditation evenings are now commencing in Bridgeways Resource Centre, (the old Dean Egan Hall), across from St. Matthews church. They will be running for 5 weeks only costing â‚¬8 per evening, starting on Saturday 4th October. There will be refreshments on the night. A great way to socialize and meet new people. A Night at the Dogs
Ballymahon G.A.A. are runni, 25th October. Tickets cost â‚¬20 and can be bought from Club members. The jackpot prize is â‚¬1,500. The Club are selling advertising in their Race Night programme, they have already received some generous sponsorship from many businesses in Ballymahon. If there are any other businesses who wish to come on board they should contact Willie Forbes (Chairman), Mike Farrell Jnr (Asst. Sec), Alan Hudson (Development Chairman), Enda Connaughton (Vice-Chairman Development), Robert Forbes (Treasurer) or any Club member. This draw is to help development at the Club. This year they have piped and closed in the drain between the new pitch and their new ground. They plan to develop this area over the next few years. They are asking the families and friends of Ballymahon GAA to support the draw and by doing so, help in the development of our Club players, Senior mens and ladies and boys and girls underage.
Its good to see the new Defibrillator unit recently installed at Stanleys, the Red Bridge, this will compliment the unit already set up and running at Leavyâ€™s, Foigha. Thanks to all our neighbours in the greater Foigha, Kenagh, Gurteen, Darogue and Shrule areas who financed these units. Also, people need to train and refresh themselves on their use. Courses will be organised shortly so check local press for details of such courses.
Harvest Thanksgiving Services in the Church of Ireland as follows:- Holy Trinity Church, Tashinney â€“ Sunday, September 28th at 3.00p.m. St. Georgeâ€™s Church, Kenagh â€“ Sunday October 12th at 3.00p.m. Everyone welcome. There will be a special Preacher on each occasion, followed by tea.
Pride of place is divided equally by referree Fergal Kelly and his team Paul Kelly, Phelim Kelly, Paddy McGuire and Tomas Oâ€™Rourke on their excellent performance in Sundayâ€™s All Ireland Minor Football Final. Fergal is now one of the top Refs in the Country. Well done lads. Ballymahonâ€™s Under 12 team have reached the County final and this will be played on this Saturday, 27th September in Glennon Bros Pearse Park. This team has worked hard this year under the guidance of Enda, Seamus, Philip and Paul. Please come along and support the young lads on Saturday. Last weeks â‚¬30 winners in the weekly lotto were Ralph Forbes, Liam Flynn, Jack Walshe and Inez Finn. The Jackpot now stands at â‚¬5,700.

As the evening are getting short and the nights are getting longer, now is the time to do a full security check around your house and farmyard. Check your locks and all outdoor lights, do you need to trim the hedge around your house, is there any dark areas where would-be criminals could hide, secure your oil tank, have your emergency numbers on hand, and finally lets all work together to prevent crime in our area and look out for your neighbour.
To Jason Heneghan, son of Declan and Dolores, Willow Crescent, Ballymahon who got married on September 5th to Geraldine Tormey, daughter of Joe and Nuala, The Pigeons, in St. Maryâ€™s Church in Tang at a lovely ceremony celebrated by Fr. Gerry Murphy. The very enjoyable music in the Church was performed by Gordon Oâ€™Connor, Aileen Casey and Bernard Coyle. Mary Tormey, sister-in-law of the Bride sang beautifully for Geraldine as she walked up the Aisle looking very elegant in her ivory Wedding gown. Mary and her husband Ronan,brother of the Bride travelled over from Dubai to join in the celebrations. Looking very glamorous in their purple dresses were Geraldineâ€™s bridesmaids, her sisters Irene McArdle and Sandra Hellen and the pretty young Flowergirls, Leah Heneghan, God daughter and niece of the Groom and nieces of the Bride, Lauren and Emily McArdle and Amy Hellen. Doing a great job as Best man was Alan Egan, a friend of Jasons assisted by Groomsman Ronnie Irwin, Jasonâ€™s cousin while page boy was Donnacha Hellen, nephew of the Bride. Among the many guests who accompanied the newly weds at their reception in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone were Jasonâ€™s grandmother, Mrs Walton, at the great age of 87. Everyone danced the night away at the Hotel to the lively music of â€œThe Wedding Bandâ€. The new Bride and Groom spent their honeymoon in the Maldives and Dubai, we hope they enjoyed their time there and wish them many years of happiness and good health as man and wife. Well done to Jason who recently got his Degree in Electronic Engineering and Wireless Communications.
