Guests from our sister community of Locquirec, Brittany are currently visiting Drumshanbo. There will be a farewell function for our visitors on Thursday, 25th September in the Lough Allen Hotel featuring Mickey Clerkin, Charlie McGettigan, Ceoltóirí Lough Allen, Set dancers, Celtic Legends and a special presentation of the Macra na Feirme award winning production of ‘A Day at the Mart’ commencing at 8.30pm. Refreshments served. Admission free. All are welcome. Your support for this event will be appreciated.

Golf Classic

The annual Allen Gaels Golf Classic will take place this year on the 27th September at Ballinamore Golf Club. Three players per team at €75. Shotgun start at 10.30am. Food and presentation of prizes in the clubhouse afterwards. Booking/enquiries: 086 828 1412 or 087 6674978.

Information evening

Leitrim County Council Sports Partnership will hold an information evening on the outdoor gym equipment, Mart Road, Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim at 6pm tomorrow Thursday, 25th September 2014. All welcome to attend.


The North West Simon Community wish to thank all those who contributed to their recent church gate collection and to the collectors. The amount raised was €637.07.

Athletic Club

Drumshanbo Athletic Club is being re launched. Information meeting and registration of children 6-12 years on Tuesday next (23rd) between 7.30 and 10pm in Allen Gaels Clubhouse. Training Tuesday, 30th September between 6pm and 7pm.Contact 087 2818087 or 0831959947.

Young Writers competition

The deadline for the Leitrim Guardian young writers competition is fast approaching. This competition is open to all students in primary and second level education. Entries from students who are home schooled are also very welcome. The maximum word count for all entries to this competition is 750 words. Both prose and poetry entries are accepted. The winning entries from both categories will be published in the journal. Winners will receive a literary award certificate as well as a small prize. Please submit your work to blaithingallagher@eircom.net  in word format making sure to put Leitrim Guardian Young Writers Competition in the subject line of the email. The closing date for this competition is October 20, 2014.   Please include your name, date of birth; school; class; and contact details on the email as well as title of your entry. It is also important to include a phone number where possible.  Entries are welcome from near and far! Please encourage young people to submit entries!

Macra events

Stock judging will take place this Sunday, 28th September on Raymond Gilmartin’s farm, Kilclare at 5.30pm. Open to anybody interested in taking part on the evening- please contact Ray on 087 832 5519 for information / directions . The stock judging will be followed by a “Know Your Ag” table quiz at 8.30pm in Berry’s Tavern, Drumshanbo. This quiz focuses on questions relating to agricultural topics - All welcome.

The 6th annual Novena in honour of St. Therese of Lisieux will take place at St. Therese’s Church, Ballintogher, Co. Sligo from the Thursday, 25th September 2014 to Wednesday, the 1st of October. All ceremonies will be at 7.30pm except on Sunday evening September 29th, the service will be at 7pm.

Seamus O’Rourke

Seamus O’Rourke will be performing on Saturday, 27th September in Fenagh Community Centre at 8:30pm with a play that has been written by Seamus O’Rourke called “ Padraig Potts Guide to walking”.
