Priestâ€™s Golden Jubilee
His many friends in his native parish, heartily congratulate Fr. John Quinn P.E. Glencar on celebrating with his family, parishioners and other friends, fifty years of fruitful ministry in eight parishes. Born in 1938 to Michael Quinn and Brigid O Connell, Drumcoura, he pursued his studies in Kilmore N.S., St. Patrickâ€™s College, Cavan, and St. Patrickâ€™s College Maynooth, where he was ordained on June 21st 1964. His appointments were C.C. Glenade (1964), Kiltyclogher (1969), Kilsherdany (1973), Bailieboro (1981), Knockbride (1989), P.P. Knockbride (1991), Mullagh (1999) and Glenfarne ( 2011).
The death has taken place in her one hundred â€“and- fourth year of former Co. Leitrim Librarian, Ballinamore Mrs Vera Carey McCarthy, St. Johnâ€™s Court, Sandymount, Dublin and formerly Mough and Ballinamore. Her funeral took place on Wednesday last following Mass of Farewell in the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, Dalkey and Requiem Mass on Wednesday in St. Patrickâ€™s Church, Ballinamore to Fenagh Abbey Cemetery. The late Mrs McCarthy, formerly attended Drumdiffer N.S, where both her grandmother Mrs. Elizabeth Quinn, and mother Mrs. Annie Quinn Carey served as Principals in the years 1854-1899 and 1899-1939 respectively, and her sister Miss Edna Frances Carey as Assistant from 1926 to 1930. Sympathy is tendered to her daughter Beth, sons Fr. Dermod, Mel and Michael, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, nephews, nieces and other relatives. Award for farmers
The verdant slopes of Clonboyher were covered with a crowd in excess of two and a half thousand, and a variety of cars and other vehicles on Wednesday July 9th, the date when enterprising farmers, the Taylor family hosted the prestigious National Open Day of the Irish Holstein Friesian Association Awards. The dayâ€™ programme included demonstration in milking, stock judging, and a livestock auction etc. Congratulations to the main recipients John and son Graeme, and well done to the many voluntary workers, who helped in making July 9th a memorable day in this community.
Capital fund grant
The members of Drumreilly G.A.A. Club are heartened by the news announced by the Minister of Sport that the Club is to benefit to the tune of â‚¬30,000 from the latest round of Sports Capital Fund Grants. The allocation will go a long way in offsetting expenses incurred in upgrading facilities at PÃ¡irc Droim Oir Bhealaigh. In recording our thanks to the Minister and those who organised the project through fundraising etc. we also thank a vibrant Club for the amount of work, voluntary and otherwise, carried out. â€œNÃ neart go cur le chÃ©ile.â€

Recalling July 1994
All of Leitrim was en fete following the County teamâ€™s win over Mayo in the Connacht Final. A bonfire blazed from 8pm to 4am at the â€œHall Lane.â€ Excitement reigned, and the bus-load of players were greeted on arrival by Drumreilly Youth Band with â€œCongratulationsâ€, Lovely Leitrimâ€ etc. In other places later in the month, Drumreilly under-age football thrived as the U-12s exacted retribution for their defeat in the 1933 by the same opposition by defeating Gortletteragh by 3-6 to 0-4 in the 1994 decider. The U-14s following defeats of Allen Gaels, Aughavas and Drumkeerin met and defeated Aughavas by 4-12 to 1-8 in the final of the Special League in Cloone on August 19th. A heavy downpour in Cornafean on Wednesday last brought a sudden end
to the Drumreilly Groupâ€™s annual Pitch and Putt session. At time of writing, the members are looking forward to this Tuesdayâ€™s coach trip to various locations of interest in Co. Sligo. Hereâ€™s hoping that Mother Nature will be benign in co-operation. The weekly meeting will take place on Wednesday night.
The death has taken place of Mr. Paddy Honeyman, Drumroosk South, Fenagh parish. His funeral took place on Tuesday last to Fenagh Cemetery following Mass of the Resurrection in St. Maryâ€™s Church, Foxfield. Aughnasheelin prevailed against Drumreilly on a score of 1-12 to 1-9 on last Friday evening in their League encounter in Carrickmakeegan.
