Family Fun Day
On Sunday 1st June the Colmcille Branch of the Mentally Handicapped will hold their annual fundraising event at Dring Car Park on the shores of Lough Gowna in aid of St. Christopher’s Day Centre, Longford. For the past forty years the committee on a voluntary basis have worked tremendously to raise funds for this worthwhile cause. Unfortunately it has to mostly depend on voluntary donations. Mass for present and deceased members will be celebrated on the site at 1.30p.m. From there on entertainment for all the family will continue for 3 hours plus. Many of Ireland’s top artists will perform here. They include Philomena Begley, Aidan Quinn and his six piece band, The Murphy’s, Noel Cassidy, Chuck Owens, Paul Lynch, June McLoughlin, Philip J Rogers, Jason McGilligan, Ciaran Rosney, Jane McNamee, David O’Reilly, The Bradys, Seamus Sheridan and Frank Kilbride. As usual there will be plenty of amusements for the children such as face painting. There will also be ferret racing, cake stalls, fishing competitions with North Longford Anglers, baby show competition and much more. We remind you to mark this date in your diary.
End of an era
It is with regret that we note the decision of the Mulligan family to close down their convenience store which has served the community for over sixty years. Many customers will miss the chit chat and gossip that were part and parcel of doing business at the corner three hundred and sixty five days of the year. We wish the retirees well.
