The official opening of Granard Market House Community Library takes place on this Thursday, 8 May at 3pm. Minister for the Environment Mr. Phil Hogan T.D. will perform the opening of the newly refurbished facility together with the Mayor of Co. Longford Larry Bannon and Mayor of Granard Town Council Maura Kilbride Harkin. This is a wonderful facility to have in our community and we all look forward to many years of enjoyable reading/information with Rosemary and staff in their magnificent new surroundings. Well done to the contractors Frank McKiernan who completed the project on target.

The building that was formerly Houricanâ€™s Hotel, Main Street sold for â‚¬65K and Tasty Bites, formerly Finneganâ€™s Drapery store on the corner of Main/Market Streets sold for â‚¬75K. We wish the new owners well with their purchases.

Due to popular demand we are now open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10am to 5pm. As well as the first Tuesday of each month. All proceeds from the shop go directly to projects in the community.

Virginia Gospel Choir
We are looking forward to welcoming the Virginia Gospel Choir for a performance on Sunday, 25 May at 6pm in St. Maryâ€™s Church. The choir will be joined by Jackie Callaghan and other All Ireland winning musicians from the World Academy of Irish Music and Dance from the University of Limerick as well as our own excellent St. Maryâ€™s Church Choir. Cycle & Climb
The 4th Annual Glenn Brady Cycle & Climb from Longford to Croagh Patrick, is on Sunday 1st June. This unique event which started in 2011 entails a 147km cycle and then climb to the summit of Croagh Patrick. The popularity of this event has grown massively over the last couple of years and this yearâ€™s will be bigger than ever. The annual walking festival will take place from 9 â€“ 11 May. Commencing with an evening walk in the grounds and woodlands of Tullynally Castle Castlepollard the home of author Thomas Pakenham (Lord Longford) and his wife Valerie. Walk will be followed by light refreshments in the Tea Rooms of the Castle. Saturday is an all day walk. The death of Kathleen Dempsey, Lisrathigan, Coolarty occurred on Sunday, 27 May. Removal took place from Our Ladyâ€™s Manor, Edgeworthstown to St. Maryâ€™s, Granard on Tuesday. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday followed by burial in Granardkile old cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her family and extended family circle.
