The May Bank holiday brought a mixture of weather with a continuation of the recent dry spell of weather but the bank holiday itself brought heavy rain in the morning. The Ploughing Match in neighbouring Ballymachugh was a big attraction for young and old. Unlike last year conditions are favourable for the farming community and some householders are already heading for the bog.
Thursday was the First of May and officially the start of Summer. There is an old tradition of erecting a May Alter in the home where a statue of Our Lady is surrounded by garlands of wild flowers. This is meant to bring luck to the family and all who enter therein in the coming year and some families still keep do this. May we enjoy a good long summer.
First Holy Communion
The children from 2nd class in the local school will receive the Sacrament in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran this Saturday, 18th May at 11am. May this be a very special day in their lives.
Annual Sponsored Walk in aid of Dialysis Unit Cavan General hospital and Motor Neurone took place on Sunday last from Ballinagh to Hideaway in good conditions. Well done to all who took part and helped out along the way.

The local Drama and Variety group staged their ZERO 14 show in the parochial hall over the weekend to packed audiences from near and far. The glittering programme of music, song and dance which included all age groups, went down a treat and there is no doubt that there is a host of fine talent in the parish while some â€œvisiting artistsâ€ received a rousing welcome. Well done to the cast which included some new undiscovered talent and a special mention of Eilish & Paddy who keeps the show on the road.

Ceoil & Craic
It is intended to compile a book of poems and articles by local poet and historian Felix Halton in the near future. An introductory night to some of Felixâ€™s poetry with some good music and song and recitation will take place in the Pikers Lodge, Gowna on next Saturday night, May 10th. A great nightâ€™s entertainment, admission â‚¬5, all welcome.
