Granard Tidy Towns are holding a cookery demonstration with Gary O’Hanlon, Head Chef of Viewmount House, Longford in the Community Centre, Granard on May, 12th at 8pm. Tickets €10. Tickets can be purchased by ringing 087-9649044 or 0866063250.

Clonbroney Community Games

Congratulations to all the girls involved in winning the U-12 Outdoor soccer final in Abbeycartron on Saturday, March 12th: Kate Murphy, Siobhan Tully, Aine O’Sullivan, Aishling Dolan, Shauna Heaney, Avril Wilson, Eimear Columb, Tara Spollen, Ruth McEvoy, Caitlin Maher, Katelyn Farrell and Emily Reilly. They met Carrickedmond in the final, it was a closely fought and exciting final which went to penalties. Clonbroney emerged victorious and the county champions. It was a team effort and every player gave a solid performance. We wish them good luck in their first round provincial match against Meath or Louth. Thank you to Scoil Samhthann for undertaking the art competition. The entries are with the judge as we speak and we will bring you the results as soon as possible.

Sympathy

Deepest sympathy to Johnny Lennon and family, Lislea, Ballinalee on the death of his father, Jimmy Lennon in England recently. His funeral takes place today, Wednesday in Holy Trinity Church at 12pm. RIP. Deepest sympathy to Sean MacEoin and family, Rossmine House, Lisduff on the sudden death of his brother, Seamus. RIP.

A Darkness into Light

A 5km walk/run will take place in the Mall Longford this Saturday, starting at 4.15am. All funds raised go towards Pieta House, self-harm or suicide crisis centre.

Ballinalee Drama Group

This Saturday in the Thomas Ashe Hall at 9pm the local drama group will perform A Wake with a Difference. Tickets are limited and cost €10 each. Proceeds from the night will go towards the newly refurbished Thomas Ashe Hall.

Dring Festival

The annual Dring Festival takes place on Sunday June 1st at Dring car-park on the shores of Lough Gowna at 2pm. The day will be hosted by Colmcille Branch of the Mentally Handicapped in aid of St. Christopher’s Day Centre. There will be lots of entertainment for all the family with music for three and half hours. Please support.

County Fleadh

Please note that this years County Fleadh takes place this weekend at venues in Edgeworthstown.

Donations

Donations for the playground are still welcome and we would ask that people bring their rubbish with them. Let’s leave this fantastic facility for our children safe and clean. Parents are reminded that the playground is a no-smoking area also.

Cycle and Climb

The 4th Annual Glenn Brady Cycle & Climb from Longford to Croagh Patrick, is on Sunday 1st June. This unique event, which started in 2011, entails a 147km cycle and then climb to the summit of Croagh Patrick. The popularity of this event has grown massively over the last couple of years and this years will be bigger than ever.
