Arva had Swanlinbar as visitors to Park na Gael, Dromard on Wednesday evening last for a postponed game in the Bradyâ€™s Arva All County Football League Division 2 which the visitors won by 3 points on a score line Swanlinbar 1-10 Arva 1-7. With 27 minutes gone Arva led by 1-3 to 0-4 but a breakdown in play led to a Swanlinbar goal which put them into the lead while Arva levelled before the break â€“ 1-4 each. The lead changed on a number of occasions during the second half and with 57 minutes gone the sides were still level. Arva got off to a great start with Jonathan Mc Cabe and Conal Sheridan points in the 5th and 6th minutes while Sheridan hit the net in the 9th minute. Swad got off the mark in the 12th minute and both sides hit a number of wideâ€™s before Mc Cabe pointed again for Arva. The visitors hit a purple patch and scored 1-3 in the following 6 minutes to lead by 1 point. Kevin Bouchier brought the sides level before the break. The sides exchanged points during the second half and were still level after 57 minutes with Conal Sheridan, James Morris and Kevin Bouchier on target for Arva. Arva led by a goal at half time 1-7 to 0-7 and went on to finish strongly with 5 points to spare at the long whistle. Jonathan McCabe and Kevin Bouchier had the opening scores for Arva while Killinkere replied in the 5th minute. Conal Sheridan scored a great Arva goal in the 6th minute and the sides traded points up to half time with Mc Cabe, Sheridan, Alan Barry, Bouchier, James Morris and Ryan Magarahan on target for Arva to leave the half time score 1-7 to 0-7. McCabe hit 3 points after the break before the visitors added another. Ciaran Brady and Bouchier added a brace for Arva while the visitors replied with a brace to leave 4 points separating the sides after 48 minutes. Cake Sale / Tea /Coffee morning was held on Friday last in aid of the Lourdes Assisted Pilgrim Fund. I would like to sincerely thank the people of the area for their generous support â€“ the amazing sum of â‚¬1,040-44 was donated. In the present economic climate it is very much appreciated and all will be remembered at Mass in Lourdes at the end of the month. I want to especially thank Robert and Rosemary Keith for the use of their premises, Elaine Cully and Frances Lee for all their help.
Anyone wishing to send a Petition to Lourdes should write it out and place it in a sealed envelope and leave it into Arva Post Office. Money should not be put in the envelope but if anyone wants to send money to have candles burned at the Grotto it should be put in a separate envelope. The Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 27th May to 1st June led by Bishop Leo Oâ€™Reilly.
