Tang Muintir Community Council - Preserving the history of our ancient Graveyards?
John Tierney from Eachtra Archaeological Projects held an information evening recently in Tang where he outlined how we can document and record information off headstones in our local cemeteries. This will be of special interest to descendants of past generations in tracing their roots. This Project will be carried out in our three cemeteries, Templeavalley, Noughaval and Ardnacraney over the course of six days, 27, 28, 29 March and 3, 4 & 5th April. This is a very worthwhile project and has been successfully done in many communities throughout Ireland. We are fortunate to have secured funding from Westmeath Community Development to carry out this Project. We would be delighted to have more people involved and if you are interested in taking part in this team project please contact Tom Conlon, Jill Stanley, Kieran Sheerin or Ben Lynn.
More street lighting
Petition forms are left in the Church, School, Community Centre and our local pubs so please sign wherever is convenient over the next couple of weeks to help us with our petition to present to Minister for Transport.
If you would like to join our Committee or help out in any way please contact Tang Muintir on 086 8249004. Tidy Towns have various projects to carry out over the coming months and we appeal for new members to come on board so please contact us if you are interested – many hands make light work and new ideas! As part of our landscaping project, we are proposing to plant native trees over the coming months. It has been suggested that perhaps some people of the parish might like to donate a tree or perhaps in memory of a loved one. This would be most welcoming and it can be acknowledged by way of a small plaque. If anyone would like to donate a native tree or require any further information, please contact Tang Muintir on 086-8249004.
