Drama Festival
The 33rd Drama festival starts in Ballinamore on March 7 to March 16. Ten nights of top class drama. Opening night starts with John B Keane’s play ‘Moll’. Darts

The semi-final time in the Francis McGirl’s Memorial Cup Competition. The final round of matches were played last Friday night. The points total after those games are: McGirl’s (89pts) – Ossie’s (82pts) – Quinn’s (80pts) – Jackie’s (70pts) – Standing Stone (66pts) – Shortt’s (B) (59pts) – Poor Scholar (58pts). The top four teams play in the semi-final. The team with most points play the team in fourth place in the first semi-final, and that game will be played next Friday night the 28th in Terry Shortt’s, starting at 10.30pt between McGirl’s and Jackie’s. The second semi-final is between Quinn’s Bar and Ossie’s who finished second and third on the run in, that game will be played on Friday week the 7th of March in McGirl’s

Computer classes

Table quiz

A table quiz, especially for teenagers, will take place on Friday 21st Feb at 8pm in the function room at the Standing Stone Hotel, Balinamore.  All ages welcome, but the questions were designed by teenagers for teenagers, so best of luck with them ! Table of four €20.00 .  The quiz is being run by Aughnasheelin GAA Club.  Come along for a bit of fun !

25 Card Drive
25 Card Drive will be held in Aughnasheelin Club Rooms at 8pm this Monday 24th and every Monday night until the end of March. Everyone is welcome to come along. Why not bring a friend too. It’s a great way to catch up with friends while enjoying your game of cards. Tea and light refreshments will be served.”

The New Hall
The new Community Hall adjacent the Sports Hall which will also double as a Scout Den is now virtually completed and will be in full use shortly. Ballinamore Scouts will be able to use it as a Den when they need it and will have dedicated storage space for their equipment. Sports Hall users can use it for meetings and tournaments as well as educational programmes as it will provide comfortable facilities for educational and training courses particularly related to health and recreation. The main hall is 45’x 24’ approximately and it has additional toilets and showers which can be used also by sports hall users. There is also a Community Council office. The hall will not be an alternative to Ballinamore Community Centre and will not be available for functions and activities appropriate to the Community Centre except in times of need.

Elections
Ballinamore Area Community Council Ltd will hold their first elections under the newly revised Articles of Association in late May. The new Council will have a maximum of seventeen members, two elected from each of Aughnasheelin, Aughawillan, Ballinamore, Corraleehan, Drumreilly and Fenagh, three elected by the combined electorate of the six parishes and a maximum of two co-opted by those elected. The electorate will be similar to that which applies for the Leitrim Development Company area elections held every third year and the election format will also be the same. Only Organisations which are registered with Leitrim Community Forum at that time (leitrimcommunity@gmail.com) will have a vote and the entire election process will take place in the new hall on the same evening. At least a month’s notice will be given of time, date and nomination process.Organisations should now ensure that they are registered as Development Company elections may also be due soon.

Confirmation

The next ritual for those receiving the sacrament of Confirmation this year will take place on the weekend of the 22nd/23rd of March, in Ballinamore Church at the Vigil Mass of Sat 22nd & in Aughnasheelin Church at the 10am Mass on Sunday 23rd.

First Communion

The next ritual for those receiving the sacrament of First Holy Communion this year will take place on Sunday 30th March, at 10am Sunday Mass in Aughnasheelin & the 11:30 Mass in Ballinamore.

Fundraiser

Annual fundraiser for Oesophageal Cancer will take place in Ballinamore & Carrick-on-Shannon this Friday, 28th February and Saturday 1st March. Your support would be very much appreciated. Symptoms of Cancer of the Oesophagus may include difficult or painful swallowing, poor appetite and weight loss, Pain or discomfort behind the breast bone or in the back, You may have heartburn or a cough, Frequent hic-coughs or belching. Though these symptoms may be cause by complaints other than cancer, it is very important that you have them checked out by your doctor.


Community School

Enrolment will take place in Ballinamore Community School on Saturday, 1st March: 10am-12.00. Parents wishing to enrol students are asked to bring the students PPS Number and a copy of their Birth Certificate. Open Day: The school will be open to the public for viewing from 2-5pm on the same day.

Cycling
The 4 Locks Club is now in its second year. Many of its members have become proficient cyclists and enjoy a spin every Sunday morning. The club is conscious that there are people who would like to join the club but feel we go too far for them. With this in mind the club is starting a shorter Sunday spin for beginners. The beginners section will meet at the same time and place on a Sunday morning. This is at 9. a.m. outside the Courthouse, Ballinamore. This regime will start on Sunday March 2nd. All beginners will be very welcome. All you need is a bike in good working condition and a helmet. We look forward to meeting you Sunday morning ( beginning 2 March) at 9 am outside the Courthouse, Ballinamore!

Church of Ireland
Church Street, Ballinamore, Sunday Service is at 12.15pm every Sunday except on the 4th Sunday which is held in Drumreilly Church, Drumreilly

Athletic Club

Training continues at the Sports Hall on Tuesday and Thursday 6.00 to 7.00 p.m. Some members will be competing in the Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals at Sligo Racecourse on Tuesday week. The Leitrim Primary Schools Sports Hall competition will be in Ballinamore on March 4th and March 11th. The Connacht AAI Indoor Championships are in Athlone IT Saturday/Sunday March 1/2.

Senior League Campaign

Many of you would have been disappointed with the inclement weather which hit last week’s fixtures list hard and caused all matches to be postponed. Hopefully the match against Drumreilly can be rearranged soon and we will update you accordingly. In regards to this week’s fixture our seniors take on Drumkeerin in the park at 2pm this Saturday.


Fashion show

Folks, Leitrim Ladies have organised a wonderful night’s entertainment on the 27th of February to raise much needed funds for the team. They will be hosting a fashion show in the Landmark hotel at 8pm. Tickets are €10 and are available now from Pamela Keegan.
