Calenders and framed photographs of St. Columba’s winning Leader Cup team will be on sale shortly. Calendars will sell at €5 each. Framed photographs will cost €25. Both items will be available in Mulligan’s shop and Cloonagh P.O. They would certainly make an excellent present for friends abroad.

Longford Rural Transport

Longford Community Resources Ltd (LCRL) manage and administer the Rural Transport Programme, which covers the rural regions of County Longford. Many thanks to all the passengers and stakeholders who have supported, and indeed campaigned for the continuation of the Programme throughout the year. Spaces are still available for this ‘’door to door’’ service in your area. Please contact your Local Provider or Co-ordinator Seamus at 043-3345555. All routes for 2013 will be completed by Tuesday 31st December. Services for 2014 will resume on Thursday 2nd January. Longford Community Resources would like to wish All Passengers and everyone who supports the Rural Transport Programme ‘’ Very Happy Christmas and Good Wishes for the New Year.’’

Christmas Play

This years Christmas play Joseph the Joiner will take place on this Sunday 22nd December at 3.00p.m in the local community centre. The children have been working hard preparing for the occasion. We look forward to the support of the whole community. We hope to have a visit from the big man himself. As it is very close to Christmas Day we will have to wait and see.

Christmas Cake Sale

The community centre committee will hold a special cake sale after Mass on Saturday 21st December. There will be plenty of nice treats on sale to have over the Christmas period. These will include cakes, puddings and logs. Anyone wishing to donate towards sale can do so by dropping them into the community centre from 7.00p.m onwards on the night. There will be a complimentary cup of tea or coffee on the night. All are invited to take a seat and have a chat with their friends. Please support.

Honk- A Musical Comedy

The Cnoc Mhuire Transition Year class are currently putting the finishing touches to HONK, a musical comedy that is based on the story of the Ugly Duckling. It is a heart-warming tale that will be enjoyed by both young and old. The musical takes place in the school sports hall on 17th, 18th and 19th December at 7.30p.m. Tickets can be purchased from the school office on 043 6686231 or through the HONKline on 085 8409506. They are available now for the bargain price of €10 each. So why not treat the family this festive season and come along to what promises to be a fantastic night’s entertainment.

St. Vincent de Paul Shop

‘’New 2 U’’ shop at Market St. Granard is open every Friday from 10.00a.m to 5.00pm and on Saturdays from 11.00a.m – 5.00p.m. It will also open on the first Tuesday of each month from 10.00am – 5.00pm. Please note change of business hours for winter months.

Lotto Draw

St. Columba’s G.F.C held their weekly lotto draw in Keogh’s on Thursday 12th November Winning numbers were 2, 4, 8, 11 with the jackpot of €4150 remaining intact. Ladies Footballers

As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in local shops or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday’s night main draw and you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Anyone interested in buying the new ‘’St. Columbas Top’’ is requested to contact club chairman Finbar Meehan as soon as possible. Samples are on display at Mulligan’s Shop and Cloonagh P.O. Prices are adults €35 and children €30. One would make an ideal Chrittmas present.

Christmas Draw

Tickets for Mulinalaghta Community Centre & St. Columba’s GFC Christmas fund-raising raffle are currently on sale. 1st prize is €200. 2nd : Supervalu Hamper. There are also vouchers for Reflexology, Chiropody, Hair Saloon and Beauty therapy. There are numerous other prizes including Christmas Table Centre and Christmas Pudding. Draw will take place on this Friday 20th December. Tickets are on sale in local shops or from any committee member. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Fireside Tales

Jude Flynn has recently published his 11th edition of Fireside Tales. Like previous issues there are many interesting articles included this time round. A firm favourite with all at home and abroad with a liking of tales and stories from years back the highly popular series is recorded by Jude in conversations with the older members of the community. He then edits the pieces and compiles them into the books Copies are on sale in Cloonagh P.O. For an avid reader it would make an excellent Christmas present.
