Michael McCormack has organised a charity match between the current squad and the semi-retired for St. Stephen’s Day (26th December) for 12pm. Entry fee is €5 and is in aid of St. Christopher’s. The Club are holding their Poker Tournament at 8pm on 3rd January in the Park House. First prize is a guaranteed €1000 – other prizes to be decided on the night. There was no winner in the last Lotto draw. Numbers drawn were 14, 21, 22, 25. Twenty-five euro winners were Tommy Gilchrist, Linda Keenan, Anne Leavey, Ardagh and Seamus Kiernan.
Charity Walk
On Sunday, 29th December, a Charity Walk will take place in Streete Parish Park in aid of St. Christopher’s Services Longford run by the Edgeworthstown Branch of St. Christopher’s. The 5km easy walk will start at 2p.m. Light refreshments afterwards in the complex. Support greatly appreciated. Scor News
Congratulations to Wolfe Tones instrumental Scor group who qualified on Saturday last in Westmeath for the Leinster finals which will take place in the Erins Isle GAA Club on January 18th. The group which was mentored by Hughie Smith, consist of Owen and Kirsten Smith, Emma and Aishling O’Reilly and Ciaran Mulligan. Well done to all. Hard luck to our young Drama team who didn’t qualify but came in with a score of 90%, this group consists of Aaron Parker, Setanta Flood, Laura Campbell, Emily O’Leary, Cora O’Neill, and Chloe McGerr and Aishling O’Reilly. Hard luck also to Laura Pakenham who gave a brilliant delivery of her recitation, also getting high marks, but not qualifying. Better luck next time folks.
Classes
There will be no more Sean Nos lessons until after the Christmas holidays. Dancers will be notified. Also most of the Saturday music classes have finished for this year, Maeve’s Bodhran and tin whistle Classes and Christmas Party will take place this Saturday, 21st December at the usual times. Mostrim Players kids Christmas disco takes place this Friday 20th from 6.30 until 8.30. with DJ Aaron.

St. Mary’s National School
St. Mary’s National School will be putting on the story of Christmas and Carols and Christmas songs during this coming week in St. Mary’s Church: On Wednesday evening at 7pm, the Junior classes and on Thursday evening at 7pm the Senior classes. There will be a voluntary donation opportunity on each night with the proceeds going to the local St. Vincent De Paul Society. This is a good time to say thanks to the staff and teachers of the school who along with the Board of Management contribute so much to the well-being of the young people of our community.
Longford Social Services
The annual Church gate collection for County Longford Social Services is being held on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd December. This collection is to help deliver meals-on-wheels, provide transport services to and from hospitals, clinics and St. Joseph’s day care centre.
Christmas Eve Mass
Christmas Eve Mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday, 24th December at 9pm.
Santa in The Green
The photos are now available for collection. Anyone who has still to collect their Santa photos, can be collected at the Old Schoolhouse Office, Ballymahon Road, Edgeworthstown.
Midlands Shotokan Karate
All students at Edgeworthstown Karate Club would like to congratulate Aoife Wadd, student of Tanden Dojo, Longford and Edgeworthstown Karate Club situated in St Mary’s Community Campus Hall, Edgeworthstown. Aoife received a 1st Dan Black Belt on 7th December in Tallaght, Dublin. She attained the grade under a panel of five of the highest graded instructors in Europe. Aoife, age 11 has taken part in karate for 6 years now and trains up to 4 times each week. Sensei Ciaran is very proud of her achievements and hopes her karate will continue to improve as it has. Christmas holidays: The final class in St Mary’s Community Centre, Edgewortshtown will take place 11am – 12pm on the 21st December 2013. Karate will begin again 11am – 12pm on 11th January 2014.
