Congratulations to Paul and Linda Frain, (nee Callaghan, Kilnacarrow, Killoe) and Rathfarnham, Dublin on the birth of their first baby, a beautiful daughter. The parish extend good wishes to the proud parents, grandparents, Pat and Dorothy Callaghan, Kilnacarrow, Killoe and John, Helen Frain, Rathfarnham, Dublin, extended families, friends, for the future filled with great health, happiness and the odd early morning start. St Vincent de Paul

The recent coffee morning held in Ennybegs Community Centre, Killoe, raised 850 euro plus clothes, food, fuel, books, toys. St Vincent de Paul Granard and Beathany House Womens Hostel Longford wish to sincerely thank everyone and all who volunteered help on the day. In grateful appreciation.

Resting in peace

Killoe old graveyard booklets now available, including a map showing location of headstones/ tombstones, plus list of names of persons place of rest. Cost 5 euro, available at Hughes shop, Ennybegs, or any committee member.

Historical Society

County Longford Historical Society have now produced a very attractive and informative book titled “Teathbha” with a wide and varied coverage of many past events including country life in rural Longford. A very interesting read . Cost 12 euro and available at Hughes shop, Ennybegs or committee members. Edited by James MacNerney.

Book/bake sale

Cullyfad Community Centre, Killoe recent book and bake sale raised a priceless sum of 1630 euro for the Phillapines disaster, and express a very big thank you to the committee of Cullyfad Community Centre for use of premises, everyone who donated books, crafts, baking, plus splendid raffle prizes. A special thank you to everyone who supported and gave generous donations on the day to this worthy cause. With deepest appreciation to all.

Carols by candlelight

A special evening of carol singing all in aid of local charities will be held in Strokestown parish Church with 120 performers conducted by Andrew Reynolds,musical director and soloist Eimear Reynolds on Sunday, 22 December 2013 at 8pm. An evening of pure enchantment.

Church notes

St Mary’s Church, Ennybegs, Masses Wednesday/ Thursday at 10am, Friday no mass (Wedding), Saturday 8pm, Sunday 11am (Pat Campbell Corneddan 1st anniversary). Confession in St Mel’s Centre on Christmas eve from 10.30am. Christmas eve mass St Mary’s Tuesday, 24 December 2013 at 9pm. Christmas day 11am, St Stephens Day 7.30pm. The pink candle is lighting this week on the Advent Wreath and it called the joyful sun as we await the coming of the Kingdom through joy, prayer and thanksgiving as is our Christian duty. So no loosing heart, giving up or complaining. The parish thank Fr Sean Casey for his devoted support through the year and trust all will remember him in our prayers. Thanks to everyone who erected Christmas trees, cribs inside/ outside both churches in the parish and the alter societies for continuous dedication throughout the year. St Olivers, Cullyfad, Killoe, Christmas day mass at 9.30am.

Seasons greetings

To Longford Leader staff. Thank you for your assistance throughout the year. The parish extend good will to all relatives, friends neighbours around the globe who are unable to join us during the festive season. To all our parishioners and their families and welcome to any new inhabitants in the parish and those who may visit over the Christmas. All the bereaved we extend a prayer for hope and strength throughout this difficult period. Also the elderly , housebound, those in hospital or unwell at home and trust people will take time to call for a ceilidh. I wish a peaceful safe Christmas with peace and joy in 2014 to everyone and hope Santa will find all you children’s homes who await anxiously. Thank FAS and TUS workers, supervisors, local council supervisor and team for all support throughout the year.
