The weather on Sunday December 8th was very mild indeed when the Ramblers visited Newcastle Forest. The treetops stirred in the breeze but down at ground level the forest was peaceful and quiet apart from the rustle of fallen leaves beneath the walkers’ boots. The Ramblers took their time, taking note that after the trees had shed their leaves the beauty of their trunks and branches could be seen, often draped with moss in the more sheltered and therefore damper areas. Darkness was gathering as the group finished their refreshments back at the car park and headed for home. There will be no walk on Sunday December 22nd to allow Ramblers a little time for their Christmas preparations, but as in previous years the Ramblers will meet for a walk in Mullaghmeen Forest at 11am on St. Stephen’s morning. Cars will leave Boherquill at 10.30 am and stop outside the Town and Country pub in Castlepollard at 10.45am on the way to Mullaghmeen. In the meantime all the Ramblers are wished a very Happy and Healthy Christmas.
