Bienvenida Senorita Ivars
A special word of welcome to our Spanish Assistant Senorita Ivars, who commenced work in our school on Tuesday last. Senorita Ivars will be assisting all students learning Spanish throughout their school year. This will be a tremendous help to students and teachers alike. We hope Senorita Ivars enjoys her year working in Cnoc Mhuire.
As part of their Irish curriculum, Transition Year students recently took part in a poster competition. Each student had to research their family tree and present their findings on an A4 poster. There was an extremely high standard but after much deliberation the winners were decided upon. 1st place: Saoirse Carey; Joint 2nd place: Danielle Kane and Jimmy Holtkamp; 3rd place: Megan Creegan. Comhghairdeas go léir.
Congratulations to former Cnoc Mhuire students Patricia Lynch, Mona, Geraldine and Aishling Sheridan who were part of the Cavan Ladies team who captured the Intermediate Ladies All-Ireland title in Croke Park last weekend. This was a huge achievement for the girls and their manager, Mullahoran man Gerry Sheridan. The girls were star performers on school teams when in Cnoc Mhuire and its great to see them continuing to shine on the biggest stage.
European Day of languages
On Thursday, September 26 we celebrated European Day of languages. Eight European languages were heard during the breaktime announcements showing the diversity of languages in our school. Vivez les langues!
Our U16 boys suffered the narrowest defeat when losing to Castleblaney on Wednesday last. The boys were disappointed with their performance and hopefully can build on this in the future. The U19 boys were missing key players on the day and were well beaten. With their cup game approaching next week they will need a big improvement. Hard luck to the lads and Ms Kearney and we wish them luck in their game next week.
Senior Boys Football
Last Tuesday our Senior boys football team got their season off to a good start with a comprehensive victory over Mercy Ballymahon in the Leinster League. It was a good team performance with a number of players putting their hands up for selection in future games with their displays. Congrats to the team and manager Mr Plunkett.
Senior Girls Football
Unfortunately for the senior girls, Mercy Ballymahon got revenge for their senior boys defeat the following day. The Granard girls held the lead early on with a well taken goal by Clodagh Burns. We missed a lot of scoring chances and the superior fitness of the Ballymahon girls saw them pull away in the second half. We were beaten on a score of 6-07 to 2-02. The girls were disappointed with their performance and know they did not play to their abilities.
As part of our Numeracy strategy in the school Mr Carroll is currently running a Senior and Junior maths competition. Every two weeks students are given 10 maths problems. A prize will be awarded to the top senior and junior student at the end of the competition. Emma Burns currently leads the Senior competition, while Mark Reynolds is the current junior leader. Congrats to Callum Mussi, Dimiter Dinkov and Adrian Rabbitte who solved this week’s “rope around the world” puzzle.
TY Trip to Knock
To celebrate the year of The Gathering, the TY students were invited to Knock on Friday, October 4. All TY students accompanied by Mr Devine and Mr Hanlon enjoyed a day of organised talks and Liturgical events. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
