The Jackpot was €3,400 – Numbers drawn were 8/ 9 / 25 / 28. No winner - €50 winners Mignone Johnston, Tycusker, Martin Brennan, Cortober. Jim Giblin, Brankhill. The Lotto Jackpot on Monday last 20th May was €3,450. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. League: Arva have 2 games in the coming days both in the Brady’s Arva, Volkswagen Division 3 League – on this Friday evening they travel to Ballyheelan to play Ballymachugh in Sheelin Park while on Sunday we welcome Kildallan to Michael Cully Park. Both are very important games and if Arva hope to get promotion to Division 2 next year they must win both games. Ballymachugh are currently in top place on the league table so Friday evening’s game will be an especially tough encounter while games between Kildallan and Arva are usually tight affairs. On behalf of the club we appeal to as many as possible to come out and support the players.

Church Services: for the Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – Sunday 19th May Morning Prayer Service in Carrigallen and Columbkille at 10.00 am and in Gowna at 11.30 am. Please note no morning Service in Arva as they are joining with Corlisbratten Methodist Church for Worship at 8.00 pm

Lourdes: – The Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from Monday next 27th May to Saturday 1st June led by Bishop Leo O’ Reilly DD. If anyone wishes to send a Petition to the Grotto they should put it into a Sealed Envelope and leave into Arva Post Office – do not put money in with Petitions. If anyone wants a Candle burned at the Grotto they should put money into an envelope and leave in the Post Office. Envelopes will be collected on Saturday morning.

Give Blood: The mobile unit of the Blood Transfusion Service will visit St Brigid’s Community Centre, Lough Gowna on Wednesday and Thursday of next week 29th / 30th May with the clinic open each day from 5.00 pm to 8.30 pm. Help ensure that essential Blood supplies are always available by giving Blood regularly – it is important that we all remember that many patients in hospitals need our Blood and this need never ceases. Blood Donors save lives – the life you save could be your own.

Raffle: The Arva Social Club are holding a Monster Raffle in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex on Friday 7th June. Tickets are €2-00 each with a book of 3 costing €5-00. The 1st prize is an Evening Meal plus B&B in Mc Nean Bistro, Blacklion. This is a fantastic prize as Nevin Maguire and staff have one of the best Restaurants in the country. 2nd Prize is a Kindle iPod, 3rd Prize is a fantastic Genesis Clock with many more prizes on the day. Your generous support would be much appreciated. They want to remind members to keep on selling and extra tickets are available in the Hotel. The Social Club are attending the Corn Mill Theatre, Carrigallen on this Friday 24th May for a Concert of Music, song, Dance etc. Anyone wishing to attend and needing a lift should be at St Patrick’s Hall, Arva at 7.30 pm – Admission €10-00

Bingo: The weekly Bingo sessions continue on each Sunday night in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva with a great attendance. There is over €3,100-00 in Prize Money on offer each week (€1,000-00 on page 9) making it one of the best around. Eyes down at 9pm.

Tea Day: - The organisers of the Alzheimer’s Tea Day Party in Arva on Friday last 17th May want to say thank you to everyone who helped out in any way, who baked, donated and made the day a great success. A total of €1438 was raised for this worthy cause.

HSE Healthy Eating Initiative: Parents Information Evening for all parents of children in the Arva Cluster Schools in St. Patrick’s Hall, Arva, on tonight Wednesday 22nd May at8.00 pm.

Pool Lifeguard Course: Under the auspices of Irish Water Safety will be held in Arva during the months of June and July. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Helen O’ Hara on 086 895 2925

Free Money: Saturday Night’s Raffle in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva is called ‘Free Money Saturday’ and on Saturday night last there was no winner. Abbeylara Field Day: Sunday 9th June 2013 including Tractor Pulling, Truck Pulling, Vintage Parade, Midget Car Racing, Modified Pro Stock and Super Farm Tractors appearing on the day. This is a day out for all the family with loads of other side attractions and all the proceeds will go to Parish Funds.

Clean-Up: Residents and Local’s interested in cleaning up Arva town and environs are requested to meet at 7.00 pm on Wednesday of next week 29th May at St Patricks Hall to commence cleanup. Protective clothing, bags and pickers will be supplied.

Margaret’s Hooley: A night of entertainment in aid of Margaret of New Orleans Birthplace on this Friday 24th May 2013 in the Corn Mill Theatre & Arts Centre, Carrigallen, Co Leitrim. This is a podium for young emerging talent, and experienced performers to take to the stage in Hooley style. History: David Brady is currently compiling a book on the history of Arva and is again appealing for any items of interest people may have in their possession. Old photograph’s of the town or events which happened in or around the town, information on the schools and Churches, any connections to World War 1 and photo’s or stories about the Fair Day’s or Market Days of long ago. The deadline for printing is drawing near so if you have anything you feel may be of interest please contact David on 086 477 5514 before the end of this month. David will take copies of the pictures or documents on the spot so there is no danger of them getting lost or damaged. Alternatively have them scanned and send to davidbrady3@gmail.com This is a great chance to put a comprehensive history of the town together and there is an onus on anyone with information to get involved

Fine Gael: On this weekend Saturday 25th / Sunday 26th May the local branch of Fine Gael will hold their Annual Church Gate Collection and look forward to your generous support.

Fianna Fail: The Arva Cumann Fianna Fail held their Annual Church Gate Collection last weekend and met with the usual favourable response. They wish to thank everyone for their generosity.

Sympathy: Sympathy is extended to Mrs Rosaleen Hamilton, Tycusker, Arva on the death of her sister Mrs Bernadette Lee, Deel, Kent which occurred on Thursday 2nd May. Bernadette was a member of the very popular Davis Family, Tycusker, Arva and was one of 13 children. She emigrated to England as a young woman and there she met and later married her husband Keith Lee who predeceased her 8 years ago. Bernadette was extremely popular in Deel but she never lost her love for Arva and visited home every year where she would catch up with old friends. She is survived by her daughters Frances and Annette in Deel her grandsons, brothers George Davis in Ballyconnell, John Davis in Deel, sisters Madge Mc Seain in Strabane, Mary Wallace in Deel and Rosaleen, nephews, nieces and many friends to all of whom we extend the sympathy of the community. Her funeral took place on Thursday 16th May in England.

Corlisbratten Methodist Church: Will hold their monthly Praise Service on this Sunday evening 26th May at 8pm with Rev Hazel Hicks as guest speaker and she will have with her members of the Arva Parish Church of Ireland congregation. A very warm welcome awaits everybody and tea will be served afterwards in the School.

Meeting: Arva Agricultural Show Society will hold a meeting on this Thursday night 23rd May in the Resource Centre, Market Square, Arva at 9.30 pm. All members are requested to attend and new members always welcome.
