Library: Good news at last for Granard when the Government announced a grant of €500K for the refurbishment of the Library premises at the Market House. The project will go to tender shortly and will give the town a state of the art facility.
Ard Scoil Phadraig: The School is to get four new class rooms and adjoining toilets connected to the main building by a covered walkway. Longford VEC has been granted planning permission and construction work is due to begin over the coming.
Employ Ability Midlands: An employment officer from Employ Ability Midlands will be available in Granard Area Action Group Office on Monday 27 May from 2.30-4.30pm. The Gathering: Cemetery Sunday on 4 August in Granardkille. The Parish is taking this opportunity to avail of this day as a Gathering for all who are visiting the Community remembering the ones who have gone before us. It is planned to have a Gathering Event for the community with a family field day in St. Mary’s GAA ground following the religious ceremonies. Cycle to Croagh Patrick: The 3rd Annual Cycle and Climb to Croagh Patrick for the Parish of Granard Lourdes Invalid Fund will take place on Saturday 1st June 2013. Last year was a very successful and enjoyable day as over 40 cyclists completed the event while many more people participated in the climb. We hope this year will be equally successful, and there is
plenty of time for any aspiring cyclists to fit in the training.

The Secret Life of the Shannon: Two part documentary exploring the wildlife of Ireland’s greatest river the Shannon. Colin Stafford Johnson examines Butterflies, Dragonflies, Kingfisher on the hunt and Daubenten’s Bats. The feature on the Kingfisher bird was filmed locally on the river Inny at Derragh Bridge Abbeylara. This programme is going out on RTE One at 6.30pm on Sunday evening next the 26 May. The second edition goes out on 2 June.
