NORTH WESTMEATH ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE: Preparations are well underway for this years North Westmeath St. Patrick’s Day Parade. 
This years event promises to be extra special with some interesting entertainment and unusual participants. As this is the year of the Gathering it is hoped that there will be a record attendance in Castlepollard for the Parade. Starting time will be at the earlier time of 5.00pm this year. Buckingham Palace have decided not to go green to mark St. Patrick’s Day but not to worry Castlepollard will be going green instead ... Keep a close eye on the town! Local businesses, schools, clubs and other organisations are busy getting their entries ready. Remember your entry can be anything so get the thinking caps on.

THE LATE MR. O. TRAYNOR: The local community were saddened to learn of the death on Wednesday, February 27th, at Tullamore Regional Hospital, following an illness bravely borne, of Mr. Oliver (Ollie) Traynor, Clonsura, Castletown-Finea, Co. Westmeath. The remains reposed at his residence until removal on Saturday, March 2nd, to St. Michael’s Church, Castletown-Finea. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass at 11.00am with internment afterwards in Finea Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large wnd widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held.
Ollie, as the deceased was known locally, was a member of an old and respected local family, and a member of the farming community. he will be sadly missed not alone by his immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his brother Liam, sister Rita, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

ST. MICHAEL’S N.S. ENROLMENT: Enrolment for St. Michael’s National School, Castlepollard, takes place between Monday, March 4th, and Friday, March 8th, from 9.00am and 11.00am. For further information contact 044-9661865.


SOCCER RE-UNION: Anyone who ever played soccer in and around Castlepollard at any time from the 1950’s, on any of the official, or unofficial pitches, is invited to attend a re-union in Hotel Castlepollard on Saturday night, April 20th, at 9.00pm. attendees are asked to bring along old photos, medals, cups, and of course their memories notable games etc. Admission is free on the night. GOSPEL CHOIR: The Virginia Gospel Choir, recent performers in the All-Ireland Talent show, will perform in St. Michael’s Church, Castletown-Finea, on Friday, March 15th, at 8.00pm. The performance on the night will include songs and music from schoolchildren. All proceeds are in aid of St. Michael’s NS, Castletown. Admission on the night will be 10.00 euro. BOWLS CLUB: Castlepollard Bowls Club hold their practice sessions every Monday and Wednesday evening in Castlepollard Community College between 8.00pm and 10.00pm. The Club is actively seeking new members, and details may be obtained from any club member.


SHARE ART SUPPORT GROUP: The Share Art Support Group are holding their next meeting in Castlepollard Library on Thursday evening next, March 7th, between 6.45pm and 7.45pm. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Castlepollard Library on 044-9332199.
