ST PATRICK’S DAY: This weekend will be a bank holiday with St Patrick’s Day on Sunday 17th, the Post Office will be closed on that Monday but anyone with DSP payments can collect on Saturday 16th. Remember the office closes at 1pm. St Patricks day mass will be celebrated at the Vigil Mass next Saturday evening at 8pm and in Boherquill on March 17th at 11am.
A REAL TREAT FOR EVERYONE: Local woman Catherine Leslie wrote her first novel “Alice-Rose” last year and it is now for sale in Rathowen Stores only €10, I cannot recommend enough that you buy this book and read it, it is just a joy to read and a real page turner, I bought it last Thursday evening and had it finished by Friday lunch time, I could not put it down and would have started to read it again only my mother nabbed it!!! I did not want the book to end, and I am thoroughly looking forward to book number 2, get a move on with it Catherine!!!! I have the cast picked for the movie!!! You will not be sorry you bought this book, well done Catherine Leslie and thank you for a very enjoyable read!!
LOTTO: The next lotto draw will be held on Monday the 4th March, the last draw held was the 18th February and the Jackpot was €8400, the winning numbers were 7, 12, 22 & 25, there was no winner of the Jackpot and the drawn winners were Kate Keegan, James Nulty and Claire Nugent. The Jackpot is now €8,600 so well worth buying a ticket, tickets cost €2 a line or 3 lines for a €5 and you can get tickets in the Post Office or Connaughton’s Pub and don’t forget the local sellers. TIDY TOWNS: Rathowen Tidy Towns started the spring clean of the village last Saturday from 10am to 11am for the litter picking. Only 7 residents came out and got pickers and bags and helped clean up the litter in our village. They started at the Longford side of the village and walked down as far as Winetown and then back in again and collected 10 bags of rubblish and some old signs. We need more help and all will be out again on Saturday morning from 10 to 11am, as the old saying goes many hands makes light work!!! Please come out and help.
LEGAN VINTAGE CLUB: Legan vintage club are holding a raffle in aid of the DPOL 1st prise is a Massey Ferguson 20 TVO. Tickets cost €5 per ticket or a book of five tickets for €20 tickets can be got from any club member. Draw will take place in the village house Rathowen on 5th of October 2013
LORD MAYOR CAMPAIGN IN BUN!: Andrew Whitney’s Lord Mayor Campaign got a great boost last Friday night 8th with a very successful American Tea Party in aid of MS Ireland and Bunbrosna G.A.A. Andrew would like to thank the hosts/hostesses who hosted tables and provided magnificent food, everybody who helped to set up the venue, everyone who sponsored spot prizes on the night and everyone who helped with tidy up, washing etc. He would also like to thank Hughie Tormey for the use of his premises and the band on the night. Also a big word of thanks to everyone who supported this event.
First Year Maths: Adult Learning is running a short course on first year maths to prepare parents to be able to help with maths homework. Starting 15th March. Time: 10.00 -12.00. STEPPING STONES PRE/AFTER SCHOOL: Stepping Stones will be holding an Easter camp from Monday 25th to Thursday 28th of March. Easter egg hunt, arts and crafts, fun and games and lots more. Book early to avoid disappointment as places are limited. Call Lorraine/Linda on 087 2244584/043 6676877. Stepping Stones Parent and Toddler group is a group which welcomes parents, grandparents and carers of children to meet with other parents, grandparents or carers. The group meets from 10.30am until 12.30pm every Tuesday morning. It’s a great opportunity to meet up have a chat and a cup of tea/coffee, discuss how their week has gone for them while their children can socialise with other children of the same age and take part in set activities e.g. painting, singing rhymes, story time, play dough. On Tuesday 19th March at 11am we will be hosting Gymboree this is a fun way to learn through play and music. Gymboree is always a great morning of fun so why not come along and join in.
VARIETY CONCERT: A variety concert will take place on Easter Sunday night the 31st March at 7.30pm in Streete Parish Park. The concert is a fundraiser for the Parish Park Walkway and will include the best of local talent. A great show with something for everybody. Tickets are at the door or from committee members.
