Ardscoil Phadraig, Granard notes

We are delighted to inform the school community that our Senior Gaelic Football campaign will be underway next Wednesday, when we are set to play Mullingar Community College in the opening fixture. An exciting game is predicted. Training for first years will continue with Paddy O’Connor working hard to develop his players’ football skills. Also, training for Ladies Football has begun this week. Their trainer, Ms Doyle, has recently retired from the game and we are very excited to see how she will enhance the team’s abilities.

Higher Options

Our Leaving Cert students returned from Higher Options in the RDS last Thursday. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and we hope this insight into the world of colleges will motivate them in their Leaving Certificate this coming year.

Aisling Festival

Our school’s fifth years have been chosen, alongside students from other schools, to take part in writing a supplement for the Longford Leader as part of the Aisling Arts Festival.

Garda Band

Recently the Garda Band played in the Canon Kelly Hall to the delight of our school community and to all who attended. They are a group of great entertainers and the event was a huge success.

Knock Trip

Our first years, together with students from Cluain Eala, are preparing to make the annual journey to Knock this Friday. Ms Reilly, Mr Roche and Fr Cadam will accompany the group and we hope that the trip is enjoyed by all.

Leaving Cert Applied

Our Leaving Cert Applied students have recently begun the work experience part of their course. In the last number of years this part of the LCA course has provided our past and present students with plenty of valuable experience to take with them as they embark on their life’s journey.

New Lockers

Our school recently purchased new lockers which will be located adjacent to the Engineering room. This measure had to be taken due to increased demand brought on by an increase in student numbers.

ETB Awards

Congratulations to John Brady and Terence Timothy who recently received ETB awards for academic excellence. It just goes to show that hard work pays off as seen with these two excellent students.
